Christian
The time in the pack hospital is frustrating, made more so because I’m worried about Enya and struggling to focus. I know she felt rejected. She couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I press myself against her mind, but she doesn’t open herself to me. I could force it, but I don’t want to. I don’t want to force her to do anything, especially after this morning. This is the exact power differential that I was trying to avoid.
When she opens her mind to me mid–morning, I physically jerk, unprepared for mental connection. I quickly recover and discuss food preparation for my family’s visit. Then, when I try to talk to her, she slams her mental walls back down.
“Is everything okay, Christian?” Shane asks.
“Fine. Are you seeing anything/out of the ordinary here?”
“No, but I don’t know much about medicine. It all seems pretty standard.”
That’s my thought too. The problem is, if their Alpha was g、ng worse, shouldn’t they have done more than the standard tests?
I force myself to focus until I hear Shane’s stomach growling. I reach out to Ellen and ask her to bring two trays of food to the hospital.
When she arrives, I ask her if Enya has eaten.
“I haven’t seen her Alpha. She went upstairs this morning to inventory

the rooms and what was needed for your family’s visit. She might have lost track of time,” she says.
“Can you have someone take her a tray of food please?” I ask.
“Sure thing, Alpha.”
When she’s gone, I pull my plate over.
“Is everything okay with you and Enya?” Shane asks. I know he’s protective of his sister. He’s either already very intuitive, or he’s hyper aware of her, possibly feeling a protectiveness because he’s the Alpha heir, even though she’s older.
“Yeah.”
“Is this about what happened with Violet earlier?” he asks.
“Yes, partly. She doesn’t understand why I was concerned about that interaction.”
“Why were you concerned? I mean beyond the obvious that Violet was challenging Enya and bad mouthing you,” he says.
