Xander
Standing out by the border at the end of night is always unnerving. Even for a powerful wolf like myself, there’s always safety in numbers, but tonight, I have a reason to be waiting out here so late. If I didn’t, I’d be lying next to my beautiful mate or holding our pup close while in a rocking chair.
I clench my fists and take a deep breath. He’ll be here soon. I have no idea what he wants after all the trouble he’s caused but I can’t ignore his message. As much as I’d rather wash my hands of him for good, I need to know if he’s going to be a threat in the future, I must protect my pack before anything else.
I look up at the sound of crunching leaves and undergrowth and narrow my eyes as the man with blood red hair steps into view. “… There you are, Magnus. You had me wait for a long time.” I mutter in a bitter tone.
Magnus’s lips curl into a small smile. “I apologize, little pup. I had to make sure my own was sound asleep and taken care of before I left her alone.” He explains. “Thank you for meeting with me.” He brushes some of his hair back over his shoulder and relaxes completely.
Being the type of demon that he is, he has an otherworldly beauty that makes him stand out with ease if he allows it. He can either take over the spotlight or hide in the shadows depending on how he carries himself. This fact makes me hate him more right now.
“So? What is it that you want?” I growl lowly. “You’ve already betrayed us and caused a needless war. What more could you possibly want?” I hate how Magnus can get under my skin. It’s not a good feeling for me especially when I saw him as a good friend before this.
Magnus chuckles softly and ponders my question while observing me like I’m nothing more than an insignificant small ant. “I told you already, pup. This was a test you needed to go through.” He says and shakes his head. “You really don’t understand… you’re so much like the first Alpha King in that regard.”
My eye twitches when he mentions my ancestor. He always talks about them… always compares me with them… it ticks me off more than it should. “And what right do you have to test me when I’m doing perfectly fine? You betrayed me just for that excuse?”
Magnus raises an eyebrow at me. “My, my… one might think you have a crush on me, pup.” I snarl lowly making him laugh. “Calm down now,
I’m merely teasing.” He shakes his head. “If I continued the contract, I would have perished. Therefore, I made to find an insecure little thing to feed off of.”
I frown. “You would have died if you didn’t betray me then,” I say as a statement and Magnus nods with a small smile. “Did you have to cause so much chaos and a war on top of everything as well?” His red eyes sparkle happily and I know the answer as I clench my fists. “Never trust a demon.”
Magnus grins. “That’s also true. If you don’t have a decent deal with a demon, you’ll get stabbed in the back in a heartbeat.” He tilts his head as he observes me once more. “Demons love mischief and chaos. If I can sprinkle some in while I’m not tied down, why not?”
I glare at him as he crosses the border to stand in front of me. “Heh… why not huh? You’re full of terrible excuses huh?” I mutter making him chuckle once more. This is all a game to him. “You’re not welcome here anymore. So just leave and never return.”
Before I can turn away, Magnus grabs my arm and yanks me close. Before I can move he takes out a knife and slices the palm of my hand. “What the f*ck?! Let me go!” I squirm but he grips the blade of the knife tightly with his free hand making himself bleed too. What the hell is he doing?!
“I vow to never cause any problems for the werewolf royal family and to protect them for as long as King Xander lives.” Magnus begins making me growl in anger and struggle even more. “In return for my loyalty, he will not harm me or my blood. Together in life, my souls are one. If I fail, I will perish.”
With that, he grabs my bleeding hand with his. As we exchange blood, a glowing symbol appears on the back of my hand. His words echo in my ears in a whisper still as Magnus lets my hand go and takes a step back.
“W–what the hell did you just do…?!” I snarl my hand still glowing with that symbol. It’s then that I notice the same symbol is on the back of his hand. “You… you redid the contract… why?!” I snap. What is his aim here? Why is it sealing himself once more?
Magnus chuckles softly. “I did… but I made some modifications of course.” My heart sinks. “You see I will still protect you and your family… but only those of your bloodline.” He hums softly. “You cannot harm me which is normal… but you also cannot raise a hand to my own as well. A clear and fair cor dare say.”
I grit my teeth together. “You betrayed us to stay alive… and then change the contract? Why? You could have just run off into the sunset with your kid and ‘feast‘ as you call it, Why go this far?” My heart pounds in my chest not knowing what this could mean for me and my pack.
