There was an unmistakable hint of… jealousy in Yves's tone.
She glanced at him, but he quickly changed the subject. "I heard there was an issue at the construction site I'm co-developing with Julian this morning. Was it serious?"
"Quite serious, but they won't see the full extent of it yet. The foundation is just being laid. If they miss the chance to correct it now, it will be impossible to fix once they start building up. In this battle over the land, Julian is destined to lose."
Winona's tone was devoid of sadness or regret. She spoke as a professional engineer, stating facts without a hint of personal emotion.
Yves looked at her in surprise.
"What is it?" she asked.
"You really don't have any regrets?"
"Regrets about what?"
"Once that construction site collapses, my next move will be to take down your ex-husband, your daughter's father. Can you really stand by and watch Julian fall at my hands? He's still your child's father, after all."
Winona looked at him, a flicker of amusement in her eyes. "And if I did have regrets? Would you stop? You two have been rivals for a decade. Are you telling me you wouldn't seize this perfect opportunity to crush him?"
Yves let out a wild laugh.
When he finished, he said, "Winona, when I decide to take someone down, I don't do it by relying on a woman. I certainly won't trample on your feelings to get to Julian. Besides, I care about you too much. I don't want to see you feel pity for him and hatred for me on the day I finally defeat him. I don't want that."
