Back at the small, cramped apartment they were temporarily borrowing, Old Mrs. Shepherd was alone. Old Mr. Shepherd had wanted her to go with them, but she had claimed to be feeling unwell and stayed behind.
Once the family had left for the hospital, she stood trembling, facing east. With her hands clasped together, she began to murmur through her tears, "Could it be… because of that incident… that my children and grandchildren are all getting this blood disease?"

Henrietta instantly felt relieved. "Oh, so they weren't even in town."
"No. Julian will be back tomorrow," Felicity said.
The entire family now pinned their hopes on Julian's return from Port City, waiting for him to unleash his power and deliver them from their humiliation.
In fact, while still in Port City, Julian had already heard the news. Yves Prescott had moved with lightning speed, systematically dismantling the Shepherd family's finances and leaving them with almost nowhere to turn. He had planned to stay a few more days, but he cut his trip short and rushed back.
His first stop was the small apartment where the Shepherds were staying. The moment Felicity saw him, she burst into tears. "Julian… oh, Julian…"
