The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 413

Winona set down her phone, momentarily stunned.

Just moments before, Sue had called, asking to meet with her. Could it be about Tiana? Winona had agreed without a second thought. Now, Julian also wanted to see her. What was happening with the Nicholson family?

A short while later, Sue arrived. Winona led her to a meeting room and had coffee brought in.

"Mrs. Nicholson…" Sue began respectfully.

"I'm not Mrs. Nicholson anymore. You can call me Winona," she said, handing Sue a thick red envelope and a gift box.

Sue looked surprised. "What is this?"

"The envelope is your year-end bonus. Thank you for taking care of Tiana at the Murphy residence. I know Julian paid you a salary, but this is a token of my appreciation as her mother. The box contains a silk scarf I had a friend bring back from Hong Kong. I hope you like it."

Sue was deeply moved. "Thank you, Miss Perkins…"

She was just a housekeeper, yet Winona was treating her with such generosity.

"Miss Perkins, I…"

Before she could continue, a man in his fifties entered the room, sighing dramatically. "Nona, you can't drink coffee! You've been having sleepless nights! This will only make it worse. Also, your assistant called and told me to remind you to take your medicine!"

It was Zachary. He knew Winona respected him deeply.

"Miss Perkins, you've been suffering from insomnia? Are you sick? Are you on medication?" Sue asked with concern, abandoning what she was about to say.

"It's because of that child!" Zachary lamented. "Nona has been losing sleep every night because of her daughter. The doctor prescribed some herbal remedies to help her settle down."

"Fine." Winona took the pills with a glass of water. Only then did Zachary leave.

She turned back to Sue. "Sue, what were you going to tell me? Was it about Tiana?"

Sue shook her head with a faint smile. "I'm moving to Riverbend City. An old friend lives there, and I heard you can take a short train ride to Port City to find work with better pay. I've already resigned from Mr. Nicholson's employment. I just came to say goodbye."

Winona was shocked. "You quit? But who will look after my daughter? If you want higher pay, Julian can give it to you. If he won't, I will. I just want someone I trust to take care of her, please."

Sue's heart ached. She wanted to cry.

As a mother, Winona had done everything she could. Even after Tiana had hurt her so deeply, she still wanted someone to stay by her side and truly care for her.

But Sue had to disappoint this long-suffering woman.
