When Felicity claimed she knew nothing about a flash drive, Frank shot to his feet, his eyes burning with suspicion. "You don't have it!"
Sitting beside them, Winona slowly shook her head, a desolate smile on her face.
How absurd could this world be? How utterly nonsensical?
Seeing Winona's pained and desolate smile, Xander knew his suspicions were correct. His trip today hadn't been in vain. All his clandestine investigations over the past few weeks had finally paid off.
"The flash drive isn't with you?" Frank demanded again, his gaze sharp and piercing as he stared at Felicity.
Felicity's voice was filled with a sense of grievance. "Mr. Frank, I never once asked to inherit your fortune. You were the one who insisted on giving it to me. Even if you change your mind now, I won't hold it against you. But I truly never took your flash drive!"
Her words only seemed to deepen the pained expressions on the faces of Frank and his lawyer.
Felicity pressed on, "Mr. Frank, you fell ill before the New Year. It was so sudden—you needed a heart transplant and were in the ICU the entire time. The doctors and nurses can all attest to that. I married Julian while you were still in the hospital, so he can vouch for me too."
"You... you never gave me any flash drive," she insisted. "Mr. Frank, you asked me to bring the contract. You always stressed it was about the contract."
Felicity was so frantic she felt like she might burst a blood vessel. Tens of billions! A fortune that was just within her grasp! The contracts were ready to be signed, so why was he suddenly asking about a flash drive? But she had truly never seen one. What on earth was happening?
She turned to Julian Nicholson. "Julian, you... you can vouch for me, can't you? I never took Mr. Frank's flash drive."
The only ones completely in the dark were Yves Prescott, Julian, and Felicity.
Yves seemed to sense something. He turned to Winona. "You know something, don't you?"
Julian also questioned her. "Winona, what did you mean when you said Felicity stole your design for the contract with the Italians?"
Already teetering on the edge of panic, Felicity immediately rounded on Winona at Julian's question. "It was you! You're trying to sabotage this, aren't you? You're jealous that I'm inheriting Mr. Frank's billions, so you're making trouble! Winona, how can you be so vicious?" she shrieked. "Did you secretly tell Mr. Frank I have some flash drive with something important he needs? Is that it? You bitch! Why are you always working against me, trying to ruin everything for me? Do you think if I don't get Mr. Frank's fortune, you will?"
"Mr. Frank sees me as his goddaughter because I've worked hard and overcome adversity. And you? You're just a bitch!"
