"Where’s Izu?"

Haji’s brows twitched as he glanced at Lola. Both of them were headed back to her study to finalize the strategy. Atlas and Allen would join later, so they were going ahead for now.

"Now that you mention it..." He scratched his temple, confusion twisting his features. "I haven’t seen him even earlier."

Lola shot him a sidelong glance. "How could he miss the meeting when my husband told him to help out Allen yesterday?"

"No idea," Haji shrugged. "He just left yesterday. I think that guy’s sulking."

"Sulking, huh?"

"I’m not one to console anyone, but I think it’s more because of this place’s overall structure." Haji casually shoved his hands in his pockets. "It’s interesting how the management and the soldiers have completely different perspectives about the mission — like two sides of a coin."

Since Haji had worked closely with Allen, even if only for a day, he realized there was this intentional lack of transparency about the soldiers’ ranking system. The hierarchy existed — points, ranks, divisions — but Allen viewed it differently.

Not just Allen, but especially Atlas.

They simply maintained the structure and never clarified anything because this system worked. Just like during the meeting, Haji noticed how other soldiers stayed not only because they wanted this mission, but because they personally desired a chance to rise in rank.

But in the bigger picture, no matter those motives, they were all part of the Order.

"What’s for sure is that results are rewarded," he snapped his eyes at Lola and smiled. "But that doesn’t necessarily show who’s stronger or weaker. I have mixed feelings about this."

The day passed, and as promised, Atlas came to Lola the second he finished his virtual meeting with the Bellemonte and the Secret Society council. This time, he behaved — focusing on finalizing the mission with his wife, Allen, and Haji.

That very same day, they completed the plans, but left some room for adjustments since things could still change during the two-day preparation.

When night fell, instead of resting, Lola asked their father to distract Atlas for a bit so she could deal with something else.

Heading toward the wing closest to the family rooms, Lola stopped in an old gym that hadn’t been used since the renovation of the newer one. The room was dim, with only a sliver of light seeping through foggy windows.

Inside, the sound of leather being struck — hard — echoed alongside short, frustrated grunts.

Lola paused by the entrance, eyes sweeping through the dusty space. She spotted Izu in the center, relentlessly pounding the sandbag. Leaning against the doorframe, she crossed her arms under her chest.

I knew something was really bothering him. He was usually composed and efficient.

But lately, the man had been withdrawing from the Order’s affairs. She didn’t dwell on it before because it comforted her knowing he was around her children most of the time.
