The next day came, and as expected, the news of Lola joining the mission shook the entire Order. Whispers and gasps echoed through thick walls, and along with the surprise came judgment.
To them, this was nothing more than a way to establish Lola’s position in the Order.
After all, it was an open secret that many were not confident in her. In their eyes, she was just a pretty woman who had a one-night stand with Atlas and happened to bear his heirs. Coincidentally, they reunited and continued their love story that barely even started years ago.
In other words, she was nothing but a heroine in a romance novel — a princess saved by her prince, or a woman who used her beauty to enchant Atlas.
A femme fatale.
"Just what are they thinking?" One of the guards stationed in the South Wing snorted. "Taking her on the mission? Are they insane?"
"You actually believe she’s going?" his comrade laughed. "I’m sure they’re only saying that. She’ll probably back out."
"This is all for show," another scoffed, rocking his head. "There’s no way the master would send his wife into the red zones of Ravah."
Hearing that, they all reached the same conclusion everyone was already whispering. Lola’s participation was nothing but a stunt, a ploy for her to take credit later. No one inside the Order would be impressed... but people outside might be fooled.
Meanwhile, in the cafeteria, the men couldn’t help but talk as well.
"The Council will never believe this," one man commented mid-chew. "Even if she’s skilled, I doubt she could match the team’s capabilities."
The others nodded, not as shocked as the rest.
"Either way, it’s pathetic." A loud voice boomed through the cafeteria. "And insulting."
Everyone turned toward the notorious gloater of the Inner Circle — Chuck. He smirked, eyes sweeping over the soldiers coming and going.
"We all know she’s not really joining. It’s not a big deal," he shrugged. "They just want to make her seem relevant. Otherwise, why would the boss let his wife step foot in Ravah?"
No one spoke as loudly as he did, but the silent agreement in their eyes was obvious. However, in one corner of the cafeteria, a particular group glared. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
They were none other than the so-called "weakest" team in the Outer Circle.
"Ignore him," one muttered. "Just ignore him."
"The captain already told us to ignore everything for now," another reminded. "We’ll find out soon enough."
Because just like everyone else, this was their first time hearing Lola was joining the mission — and it came from other circles. Even Izu looked shocked when he was told. They’d know soon whether it was true... or just another rumor created to fuel everyone’s prejudice against the supposed matriarch.
"What?" Chuck snorted louder, spotting the weakest group. But before he could open his mouth again, a large silhouette appeared at the entrance.
Chuck glanced over, scowling as he saw Baby walking in.
"Tsk. I just lost my appetite," he grumbled, rising from his seat and deliberately tipping his tray to leave a mess behind.
He walked off with his lackeys from mid-tier soldiers who liked to bite at scraps of power. Others glanced briefly at Baby before returning to their meals quietly.
