The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 240

Lucie kept her cool, forcing a polite but distant smile. “June, do you need something?”

June grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief. “What, I can’t just drop by to hang out?”

“I’m busy with work. I really don’t have time to mess around right now.”

June just laughed, teasing, “Alright, alright. You’re the boss lady and I’m just a jobless bum. I wouldn’t dare distract you from your empire.”

Lucie tried not to roll her eyes. “So, what is it?”

“I’m here to buy antiques! The last batch I got from you wasn’t nearly enough for all the people I need to give gifts to.”

“You want to buy more?”

Lucie stared at her, stunned. Last time, June had bought seven pieces, each one costing at least six figures. She’d dropped millions without even blinking.

June rested her hands on her hips and flashed a winning smile. “What are you looking at me like that for? Shouldn’t you be rolling out the red carpet for such a big customer?”

“Oh, and by the way, I heard the antique dealers’ conference is coming up next month. You’re the president this year, right?”

Lucie’s throat tightened. She nodded. “Yeah. That’s me.”

June looked way too pleased with herself. “So, is everything all planned out yet? Got the whole event sorted?”

Lucie hesitated. “Uh… I’m still working on it.”

June smirked. “Need a hand? I know a bunch of big shots in the antique world. If I bring them along, your conference will be the biggest thing this year.”

Lucie eyed her skeptically.

June just looked even more confident. “What? You don’t believe me?”

“I believe you,” Lucie said, mostly because she wanted to.

“Perfect. With me around, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

And just like that, June strolled right into the office, making herself at home behind the desk like she owned the place.

Lucie didn’t bother stopping her. Honestly, she was desperate. The conference was her first solo project, and she was way out of her depth. If June could really pull some strings, she’d be a lifesaver.

“June, you’re not joking, are you?”

“Would I joke about this? Listen, guys like Henry, Alex, and Mark—they’re all close buddies of my grandpa. One call from me, and they’ll come running.”

Lucie’s eyes went wide. Those three were legends in the industry, even more respected than her own grandfather. Every year her grandpa tried to invite them, and every year they ignored him.

“Are you sure you can actually get them to come?”

June let out a little snort. “If I can’t, you can spit in my face.”

June’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “There’s a hot springs resort out in the Gillmore Mountains near Westbrook. Food, drinks, entertainment, you name it. The springs are all-natural. How about you treat me to a spa day?”

Lucie blinked. “That’s all you want?”

June giggled. “Well, if you can find a few guys as hot as your ex-husband to join us, I wouldn’t say no.”

Lucie nearly choked on her own breath, her smile freezing on her face.

June shrugged, totally unfazed. “But hey, if you can get Steven himself to come along, I’ll owe you one.”

“June, don’t even joke about that.”

June laughed. “Relax, I’m just messing with you. So it’s settled—you’re taking me to the hot springs tomorrow.”

Lucie honestly didn’t want to go, but June had just done her the biggest favor ever. And it was such a small ask. There was no way she could say no.

“Alright. You got it.”

June beamed. “So you’re in?”

“You asked, didn’t you? Of course I’m in.”

“Great! Let’s get ready today, and tomorrow we’re off to the hot springs!”
