THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1002

Adler had enrolled in a military academy at eighteen.

He had been in the service for twelve years now and had trained countless new recruits, both male and female. He had seen promising talent before, but he had never seen anyone this good.

It wasn't just her perfect stance; her gaze was resolute, deep, and full of grit.

She stared straight ahead, her eyes seemingly able to pierce through anything, projecting an unshakeable, powerful aura. Nothing could move her.

In that moment, even Adler, a current active-duty soldier, was profoundly shaken.

He couldn't help but wonder if she had seen combat. Mere military service wouldn't forge a gaze like that.

But she was just a college freshman, no older than twenty. How could she have possibly been in the army?

Adler suppressed his shock and spoke, his voice booming, "Caitlin, front and center!"

The members of Third Platoon collectively held their breath for Caitlin. It was over. Their goddess was about to be torn apart by this monster of an instructor.

Charis nearly laughed out loud. "Here it comes. It's finally here. My uncle is about to give Caitlin his special attention. It looked like Caitlin was in for some serious trouble. And not just a little trouble, either."

When dealing with others, Adler had only thrown a few insults around. But for Caitlin, he was calling her out in front of everyone. That just showed how much he disliked her!

The thought filled Charis's eyes with triumphant glee. She couldn't wait to see Caitlin get humiliated by Adler in front of all of Third Platoon. The scene was sure to be spectacular!

At the command, Caitlin stepped forward and faced Adler. "Sir, yes, sir!"

As their eyes met, Adler felt another jolt of surprise. The girl's eyes were clear—impossibly clear, without a trace of impurity. As an instructor and a combat-tested officer, he was used to students looking at him with awe, fear, or even admiration and crushes. Forget the students; even seasoned soldiers in the military were wary of him.

But there was nothing like that in Caitlin's eyes. No fear. No admiration or affection. Not even a hint of awe. It was as if she wasn't looking at an instructor or an officer, but just an ordinary person.

Most unnervingly, through her eyes, Adler felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he were seeing someone else.

For a moment, Adler was lost in a daze. He narrowed his eyes, a glint of sharp light flashing within them. After a long ten seconds, he snapped back to reality, pushing down his confusion. "Caitlin, move to the front of the formation."

Caitlin marched to the front.

Hearing Adler's command, Charis grew even more excited. "Making her stand at the very front? Oh, this is good!"

It seemed Adler disliked Caitlin even more than she'd imagined. Otherwise, he wouldn't be singling her out like this. It was no different from public shaming.
