After adjusting the clip, Gordon retrieved her purse from the back seat. "It just rained last night, so walk slowly," he reminded her.
Caitlin took her bag. "I know, I know. It's only three steps to the door."
"Freya!"
Just then, Celeste burst out of the house.
Influenced by Norris, Celeste's nickname for Caitlin had long since shifted from "Catie" to "Freya."
"March!" Caitlin cried, equally excited.
The two young women embraced warmly.
After their hug, Celeste looked at Gordon in surprise. "Mr. Sylvester, you're here too! Won't you come in for a bit?"
"I won't interrupt you two catching up," Gordon replied before getting back into his car.
Celeste took Caitlin's arm and they walked toward the front door. Gordon waited until they were safely inside before starting the engine and driving away.
As soon as they were in the house, Celeste's attention went straight to Caitlin's belly. "Freya, are you really having triplets?"
"I am," Caitlin confirmed with a nod.
"You're amazing! Three at once!" Celeste continued, leaning in conspiratorially. "By the way, is there some kind of trick to having multiples?"
"March, are you hoping to have three at once with my brother Norris?" Caitlin asked, popping a piece of candied fruit into her mouth and raising an eyebrow.
Celeste nodded without hesitation. "Yes, of course! If you can have three at once, why would you go through it three separate times?"
