After a long day at the lab, Caitlin returned home around seven in the evening.
She went straight to her father's wing to administer his acupuncture treatment.
Keira was sitting by Stuart's bedside.
"Freya, when will your father finally wake up?"
The Gonzales family had been through a lot recently.
Amanda and Gavin's divorce had cast a shadow over everything.
It was time for some good news, something to bring a little joy back into their home.
"Soon, Grandma," Caitlin replied as she carefully placed the needles.
"How soon?" Keira pressed.
Caitlin applied a clear ointment to the tips of the golden needles. "At most, two weeks. At the earliest, one."
Keira shot up from her chair.
"R-really?"
She was so overjoyed she thought she must have misheard.
"Yes, Grandma," Caitlin confirmed with a nod.
Keira's eyes filled with tears. She dabbed at them with a handkerchief. "That's wonderful! Stuart, did you hear that? You're going to wake up soon!"
It was the best news Keira had heard in a very long time.
Twenty years.
She had waited for this day for over twenty years.
Just as Amanda stepped into Stuart's courtyard, she overheard their conversation.
Two weeks at most, one week at the earliest?
Was that little witch dreaming?
Did she really think her back-alley medicine could wake Stuart up?
What a joke.
Suppressing a smirk, Amanda hurried inside, feigning excitement. "Oh, Freya! Is your father really going to wake up? You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this day!"
She took Stuart's hand. "Stuart, you have to wake up soon! Wake up and see what a wonderful daughter you and Carey have. The future of the Gonzales family is secure."
Keira was also overcome with emotion.
She had started to believe she would never see this day.
But now, her granddaughter had given her hope again.
"Freya," Keira asked, "can your father hear us now?"
Caitlin shook her head. "Not yet."
A faint, triumphant smile touched Amanda's lips. She had expected as much.
How could a man in a vegetative state, unable to even hear, suddenly wake up?
But that was fine.
Once Stuart woke up, Amanda's name would be cleared.

Meanwhile, at Neon Spire.
Griffin had taken the first available flight back.
As soon as Griffin arrived at the hospital, he went to find Dr. Smith.
Dr. Smith was in the middle of overseeing the mass production of the new drug.
Once it was produced, he could file for the patent and start raking in the profits.
"Director Smith, I have something very important to tell you!"
"What is it?" Smith asked, glancing up from his work.
Griffin looked around at the other lab technicians. "Let's go somewhere else."
It wasn't safe to talk here.
Smith led Griffin to his office.
Once the door was closed, Griffin recounted the day's events, including every word Caitlin had said.
When she finished, Smith scoffed. "Impossible! That's absolutely impossible! That selfish Eldermere woman just can't stand the thought of me surpassing her. She can't accept that someone else could develop a cure for epilepsy."
"I'm not falling for her tricks."

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
