Caitlin took the collar, fastened it around Monday's neck, and attached the leash.
Seeing her about to head out, Lenora smiled. "Miss Caitlin, it's getting late. Shall I go with you?"
It was already past eight in the evening.
"No, that's alright, Lenora. You can head home. I'll be fine. I've got Monday to protect me!"
Monday lifted his head at the sound of his name, his tail wagging proudly.
Lenora glanced at the dog. "Are you sure he can protect you, Miss Caitlin?"
Monday might be a big dog, but he was a notorious coward. He was afraid of everything, including stray cats.
"Of course," Caitlin said, patting his head. "Monday is the best boy!"
This only made Monday more pleased with himself.
With that, Caitlin and Monday headed out.
Monday was not only timid but also incredibly curious. He had to sniff everything he saw.
As they left the Gonzales Manor grounds, he discovered a common garden frog in the bushes along the path.
Like an explorer discovering a new continent, Monday cautiously approached, his nose twitching. The frog, feeling the dog's warm breath, suddenly hopped away.
The unexpected movement startled Monday so much that he leaped three feet in the air.
The sight was so comical that Caitlin burst out laughing. "Hahaha, Monday, you big goof!"
Monday scurried behind Caitlin, peering out at the frog from behind her legs.
"Woof, woof, woof!"
*Oh my dog, that was terrifying!*
Caitlin stroked his head reassuringly. "It's okay, it's okay. It's just a little frog. You could crush it with one paw. It should be scared of you, not the other way around."
Monday was still trembling.
"You have to be brave, you know?"
"Woof."
"You're supposed to protect me, be my bodyguard."
"Woof."
"Louder," Caitlin encouraged.
Monday paused. "Woof, woof."
"Even louder."
"Woof~"
The sound was more like a meow. Caitlin finally gave up. "Alright, alright, I won't push you. From now on, your only job is to live a happy life. I'll find another bodyguard."
A black car was parked by the side of the road.
In the driver's seat, a man in a sharp suit, his long, elegant fingers resting on the steering wheel, had witnessed the entire scene. A faint smile played on his lips.
So, this was another side of her.
The man had striking, fox-like eyes, framed by long lashes. His dark irises were as deep as the night sky. He had a high, straight nose and wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses that gave him an air of refined elegance.
As she and the dog began to walk out of view, he lowered the window and took a cigarette and a lighter from the center console.
*Click.*
Unable to restrain the excited dog, Caitlin had no choice but to run along with him.
"Catie!"
A deep, magnetic voice called out from ahead, filled with an undisguised affection that was music to her ears.
The voice was familiar.
Caitlin paused and looked up.
There, standing in the crowd, was Gordon Sylvester. He was tall and strikingly handsome, standing out like a king among commoners. His slightly upturned, phoenix-like eyes were deep and unreadable, exuding an air of noble detachment.
He radiated a cool, ascetic aura.
"Gordon!"
Caitlin realized then that it wasn't his father that had caught Monday's attention.
Monday had already reached Gordon, jumping and barking excitedly. "Woof, woof, woof!"
Gordon gave the dog a cursory pat on the head before striding toward Caitlin.
They embraced in the middle of the crowd.
A mutual affection, a meeting of two hearts.
Monday tried to join in, but he was held back by Gordon's assistant, left to wag his tail anxiously.
*Aww, I want cuddles too.*
"Catie," Gordon's arms tightened around her waist, his voice a low whisper, his warm breath tickling her ear. "I missed you."
"I missed you too," Caitlin replied, her arms wrapping around his neck. She stood on her toes and pressed her lips against his.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
