Caitlin had only meant to tease him, but she had quickly become the one caught in his net.
The intense kiss lasted for three or four minutes before Gordon finally pulled away. He was afraid if he continued, he would lose control completely.
They were both breathing heavily.
"Woof, woof, woof."
Monday trotted back over, nudging them to keep walking.
"Let's go, Catie," Gordon said, extending a hand to her.
Caitlin looked at him. "I can't walk. You'll have to carry me."
Her legs felt like jelly.
"Okay." Gordon nodded and crouched down in front of her.
Caitlin didn't hesitate, climbing onto his back.
It was the first time Gordon had ever carried a girl. He stood up carefully, a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead from either nerves or exertion.
He was grateful for the darkness and the empty path. He was also grateful she was behind him, where she couldn't see the front of his otherwise immaculate suit trousers.
"Am I heavy?" Caitlin asked.
"Not at all," Gordon replied after a moment's thought. "About the weight of a Remington handgun."
Caitlin was surprised. "You even know what that is?"
The Remington was a classic, a legend among rifles.
It wasn't something the average person would know about.
Remembering the rumors she had heard about him, she asked, "Were you really in the military?"
"I was," Gordon confirmed. "But that was a long time ago."
Back then, he had thought his impulsive nature made him unsuitable for business, so he had joined the army.
Thanks to his education and natural abilities, he had quickly become an officer, serving on peacekeeping missions where he had earned a fearsome reputation.
"Wow, you really are something. I heard military guys have abs. Do you?"
Before Gordon could answer, she continued, "You've been out for so long, though. They're probably gone by now, right?"
"They're still there," Gordon said.
"Really?" Caitlin's interest was piqued. "Let me check."
Her hand slipped under his shirt, her fingers tracing the hard planes of his stomach.
He felt solid.
Clearly, this was one time Gordon wasn't just being stubborn.
He really did have abs.
And not just abs, but the V-lines that went with them.
Though she couldn't see them, she could imagine that he was in incredible shape.
"They really are there," she said, patting his cheek. "Keep up the good work, Mr. Sylvester."
Ann's face lit up with glee.
Just wait.
This little country girl was finished.
Amanda patted Caitlin's hand. "Don't worry, Freya. I won't say a word to your grandmother."
"Thank you, Auntie."
"You stay here and take care of your father, Freya," Amanda said. "Ann and I will head home. If anything happens, call me immediately. I'll be here for you. I can handle anything."
Since Stuart was dying, there was no point in her sticking around.
All she had to do now was go home and wait for the news of his death.
And once he was gone…
Caitlin's time in the spotlight would be over.
"Okay, Auntie," Caitlin nodded.
"Let's go, Ann." Amanda turned to her daughter.
Ann quickly followed.
As they got into their car and left the Gonzales estate, Amanda felt a surge of anticipation.
But just as she was about to enter her own villa, she collided with a middle-aged woman. Amanda was about to unleash a string of curses when she saw the woman's face. Her own expression turned to one of pure terror.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
