The doctor's words struck Benedict like a physical blow, and the color drained from his face. For a long moment, he couldn't process what he'd heard.
He took a deep breath. "You… you're joking, right?"
The doctor gave him a weary look. "Why would I ever joke about a patient's life?"
Benedict stumbled back a few steps, then grabbed the doctor's shoulders, his grip desperate. "Doctor, my friend has been an orphan since he was a child. He's already suffered so much. Please, I'm begging you, you have to save him! Please!"
The doctor shook his head, his eyes filled with regret. "I'm sorry, Mr. Quinn. We've done everything we can. Now, it's up to the patient's own will to pull through."
The last glimmer of hope in Benedict's eyes faded, leaving behind a dull emptiness. His shoulders shook as he lowered his head.
The doctor placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Don't lose all hope, Mr. Quinn. Based on his current recovery, there's a chance he can make it. We'll be monitoring him very closely over the next few days."
The small assurance was enough to ease some of Benedict's despair. "Thank you, doctor."

Meanwhile, at Neon Spire Hospital, Director Smith was reviewing documents in his office.
*Knock, knock, knock.*
"Come in," he said, looking up.
The door opened, and a man entered, bowing respectfully. "Director Smith."
It was Ennio, Director Smith's most prized assistant. Ennio and Griffin had both worked under Smith, but Griffin had recently left the medical team. His departure had been Ennio's big break. Because Griffin had been Smith's protégé, all the best projects had gone to him. But now, Ennio was Smith's sole right-hand man. Smith had not only entrusted him with his most important work but had also included him in the development of the new epilepsy cure.
Ennio was ecstatic. A cure for epilepsy—if Smith's drug was successful, he would become a legend in the medical world. And as his loyal subordinate, Ennio's own status would skyrocket.
"What is it?" Smith asked.
Smith followed him into the lab. It was a sterile environment, requiring them to change into protective suits. Once gowned up, the supervisor led Smith and Ennio to a workstation and held up a small pink pill. "Director Smith, this is the final product."
Smith took the pill, his eyes gleaming with triumph. Finally. He had finally developed the cure. The entire medical community would soon witness his miracle.
The supervisor continued, "We've already tested it on lab rats. Traditional Eldermere medicine requires a week of treatment to cure epilepsy. Our drug does it in three days."
Smith nodded, pleased. "Notify the production team. Begin mass production immediately."
"Before we do," the supervisor said respectfully, "we need a name for the drug."
"Call it the Smith Pill," Smith said without hesitation. Naming it after himself was the obvious choice. He wanted everyone to know that he was the first person to cure epilepsy.
