"Understood."
Just then, something seemed to occur to Smith. "Have you filed the patent?" Only with a patent could he prevent other hospitals from stealing his work. From now on, only he could use this formula. Not even Caitlin would have access to it.
"It's already been registered."
At this, the supervisor hesitated, a troubled look crossing his face. "Director Smith, Griffin was here last night. He said… he said…"
"Said what?" Smith's eyes narrowed.
The supervisor decided to relay the message. "Griffin said this drug can't actually cure epilepsy. It only provides a temporary effect, and within half a month, there will be a severe relapse. He said anyone who takes it could die. Director Smith, should we still release the drug?"
Smith burst out laughing. "He was obviously sent by that Eldermere witch to say that. Does he really think I'd fall for such a cheap trick?" Eldermere people were selfish and conniving. A person like Caitlin had no right to be a doctor.
Ennio chimed in, "There's another reason. Griffin regrets his decision. He regrets leaving your team." Griffin hadn't just left a team; he'd thrown away his chance at fame in the medical world. It didn't take a genius to figure out his motives for showing up now.
Smith nodded. "Ennio is right. But I don't give second chances to traitors. Will, if he comes back, just ignore him." Griffin had walked away without a second thought. He couldn't just waltz back in.
"Understood," Will said.
Smith turned to Ennio. "Contact the media immediately. Announce that I've developed a cure for epilepsy. The official release will be in three days." He then added, "And make it clear—it will only be sold to Valerians."
He had no intention of letting his hard work benefit a bunch of Eldermere people. Let Caitlin and her kind tear each other apart. The thought was immensely satisfying.

Benedict spent the entire day at the hospital with Tammie. It was early evening when he finally returned to the villa. The doctor had said Tammie's condition was improving and that he was expected to wake up tonight and be moved to a regular room. Benedict needed to pack some of his toiletries to take back to the hospital.
The words were simple, devoid of any overt sentimentality, yet they brought tears to Benedict's eyes.
Just as he finished reading, his phone rang, the sharp sound cutting through the quiet room. He pulled it out, trying his best to suppress the tremor in his voice. "Hello?"
*Don't cry. Tammie is still alive. The doctor said he would wake up tonight. Don't be so morbid.*
Suddenly, something on the other end of the line made his hand go slack.
*Clatter.*
The phone fell to the floor. All the strength drained from Benedict's body, and he collapsed to his knees, a raw, guttural cry tearing from his throat.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
