THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 764

Rosemary breathed an inward sigh of relief. Brock was the Palmer family's sole male heir. If his condition worsened because of Caitlin's treatment, her life would be over.

A thought occurred to Lance, and he looked at Rosemary with narrowed eyes. "Did Mrs. Palmer send you to find me?" Had she already regretted her decision? Yes, that had to be it. Why else would Rosemary be asking him about this? He had known Mrs. Palmer would come to her senses, but he hadn't expected it to be this soon.

A smirk touched his lips. "If Mrs. Palmer wishes to request my services again, then she can come and ask me herself." Rosemary was not important enough. If Mrs. Palmer didn't come to him personally and apologize, he would not lift a finger to help Brock. He had given her a chance, and she had thrown it away.

Rosemary chose her words carefully. "Mr. Lance, I believe there's been a misunderstanding. Mrs. Palmer did not send me. I was simply concerned for Patriarch Brock and took it upon myself to inquire about his condition." She let out a sigh. "It's such a shame about Mrs. Palmer. I can't believe she would trust someone from Eldermere over you, one of Valerium's most respected doctors. If something were to happen to Patriarch Brock, it would be too late for regrets."

Lance's face flushed with anger. So, Mrs. Palmer hadn't sent her after all.

*Just you wait,* he fumed. *You'll come crawling to me soon enough.*

"Regrets?" he scoffed. "Regrets are useless. This world has everything except a cure for regret!" He turned on his heel and strode away without another word. The next time he set foot in Palmer Manor, it would be because Mrs. Palmer was on her knees, begging.

Watching his retreating figure, Rosemary's eyes glinted with malice. All she had to do now was wait for Caitlin to fail.

*That damn little bitch,* she thought, *daring to insult me.*

Soon after, Rosemary returned to Vance Castle. Her mother had just come back from her evening prayers in the chapel, the scent of incense still clinging to her clothes.

"Yes, that's the one."

The Dowager's eyes practically spat fire. "What is she doing in the Capital?" She despised the Gonzales family, every last one of them. Why did her son have to die so young while Stuart got to live? The Gonzales family didn't deserve to have children. They should have died out.

Rosemary proceeded to recount the day's events at Palmer Manor.

The Dowager's face twisted with jealousy and bitterness. "Are you certain that Gonzales girl diagnosed Brock's illness?" If she had a granddaughter, she would be about Caitlin's age now. Why did the Gonzales family's granddaughter get to shine, bringing honor to her family, while she was left to face her old age alone? Her daughter was unmarried, her son dead.
