Brock… was awake? How could he be awake?
The words hit Lance like a physical blow, leaving him stunned. The color drained from his face.
How was this possible?
Brock had been coughing up blood just last night. Leroy had even waited outside his villa for the entire night, begging him to make a house call to Palmer Castle. That alone proved how dire Brock's condition had been; Leroy wouldn't have been so desperate otherwise.
Besides, under normal circumstances, coughing up blood was a sign of severe deterioration for a parasitic infection. At that stage, without effective treatment, the patient would, at best, fall into a coma. At worst, it could be fatal.
Literally anything could have happened. Anything except waking up.
But now, Brock was awake.
How? Could Caitlin's medicine have actually worked?
Impossible. There was no way her prescription could have any real effect on Brock's condition.
Lance took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down as he turned to Alfred. "Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
He had to be mistaken. Yes, that was it. In fact, Mrs. Palmer was probably already on her way to personally request his help. He was the only one who could truly wake Brock up.
For the past three days, Lance had been working tirelessly to develop a cure for the Lasug parasite, locking himself in his lab without sleep. He had finally succeeded. Now, all he had to do was wait for Mrs. Palmer to come begging, and he would swoop in, cure Brock, and become the Palmer family's savior.
The more Lance watched, the more his anger boiled over, and he hurled the phone to the ground.
Crash!
The screen shattered on impact. Alfred could only watch his phone get destroyed, too intimidated to say a word.
No one could understand the depth of Lance's regret. If he had just gone with Leroy to Palmer Castle last night, the credit for Brock's recovery would be his! After all, Brock had been at death's door. If he had just shown up and administered any kind of treatment, he could have claimed the victory.
He shouldn't have been so arrogant. He shouldn't have demanded that Mrs. Palmer come herself. If he had just swallowed his pride and gone with Leroy, this would have nothing to do with Caitlin Gonzales.
But now, he could only watch as she stole all the glory.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
