THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 772

How dare that mediocre woman from Eldermere stand above him? How dare she become the savior of the Palmer family?

Lance was sick with regret, cursing the fact that he couldn't turn back time. He slammed his clenched fists onto his desk.

Thump!

The heavy desk shuddered from the force of the blow, and his knuckles split open, bleeding. But Lance, oblivious to the pain, raised his fist and slammed it down again.

Then, just as quickly, a chilling calm washed over him.

A final rally.

That had to be it. Perhaps this was just a final burst of energy before the end. There was no other way to explain such a rapid recovery. Not even his own specialized cure could alleviate Brock's symptoms that quickly. How could Caitlin's?

A sinister glint appeared in Lance's narrowed eyes.

A final rally usually only lasted a day or two.

He would wait. The Palmer family would be planning a funeral soon enough.

And Caitlin Gonzales would be ruined.

***

During his delirium, he had only heard her voice, never seen her in person. Their family's medical affliction had stumped experts for generations, giving rise to the legend of the curse. Yet, this woman had cured him with apparent ease. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of person possessed such miraculous skill.

Mrs. Palmer considered the question for a moment before answering seriously, "She's perfect."

In medicine, Caitlin was at the pinnacle of her profession. In appearance, she was second to none. In Mrs. Palmer's eyes, Caitlin was the most perfect person she had ever met.

"Really?" Brock asked, intrigued. He had never heard his mother praise anyone so highly. Born into aristocracy, she had impossibly high standards; most people hardly earned a second glance from her.

"Of course," Mrs. Palmer affirmed. A thought then struck her. "When Celia gets back, I'll ask her to find out if Miss Gonzales has a boyfriend."
