THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 876

To get on good terms with your daughter-in-law, you first had to win over her dog.

Besides, Beatrice had seen the videos Caitlin posted of Monday. He was a very well-behaved and intelligent dog.

Alaina was at a loss for words.

Beatrice's fondness for Monday grew by the second. She called out to a maid, "Josie, go tell the kitchen to prepare some extra beef and salmon for lunch today. I hear dogs love those. A big boy like Monday must have a healthy appetite."

Josie nodded. "Of course, madam. I'll go right away."

For the rest of the afternoon, Monday was Beatrice's constant shadow. He even sat next to her at the dining table.

When Skyler Cumming arrived for dinner, he stared at the scene in disbelief.

"Grandma, I thought you didn't like dogs."

He remembered going shopping with her as a child and seeing puppies in a pet store. He had begged to get one, but Beatrice had adamantly refused. For all these years, Snow the cat had been the only pet in Sylvester Manor.

Then, something clicked. Skyler squinted at the dog. "Wait a minute… that dog looks a lot like Boss Caitlin's Monday."

Monday's underbite was unmistakable. At least, Skyler had never seen another dog that looked quite like him.

Alaina smiled. "That's because it is Monday. Why else do you think your grandmother is so smitten with him?"

Love me, love my dog. Beatrice's affection for Monday was all because of his owner, Caitlin.

"That explains it," Skyler said, walking over to pat Monday's head. "If Monday's here, Boss Caitlin must be here too, right? Where is she?"

Alaina replied, "Catie is still abroad. Your uncle Gordon brought Monday over."

Skyler nodded, turning his gaze to Gordon. "Uncle Gordon, are you dog-sitting for Monday?"

"I am," Gordon confirmed.

Skyler's eyes glinted. "Uncle, I heard you've been really busy lately."

"Yes, it's been hectic," Gordon said in his usual low tone.

Skyler grinned. "Well, since you're so busy, you probably don't have time to look after Monday. Why don't I take over for you, starting today?"

Gordon set down his fork and simply looked at Skyler. He didn't say a word, but an inexplicable chill seemed to emanate from him, making Skyler feel a little cold.

After a moment, Gordon spoke. "If Monday is willing, I don't have a problem with it."

"Of course he'll be willing!" Skyler declared, spearing a piece of sweet and sour pork. "I'm practically his brother!"

Gordon didn't reply, calmly picking up a piece of broccoli.

After dinner, Skyler grabbed the leash. "Uncle, I'm taking Monday home with me now."

She knew her brother well. He wasn't exactly the type to go out of his way to help someone.

Beatrice's eyes narrowed. "You find it strange too, don't you?"

It wasn't just that Gordon was helping Caitlin. It was how familiar he was with Monday.

Justice, who usually stayed out of gossip, couldn't help but chime in. "Where there's smoke, there's fire."

He had been watching Gordon's interactions with Monday all afternoon. He didn't treat the dog like a pet, but more like a child. Justice had never seen this side of his brother-in-law before.

Alaina exchanged a look with her husband. "Do you think… Gordon and Catie might be dating?"

Justice nodded. "It seems very likely."

He then added, "If that's the case, based on how he treats Monday, he's going to be completely wrapped around her finger."

A look of pure excitement spread across Justice's face.

Beatrice clasped her hands together as if in prayer. "Dear Lord, please let it be true. If my Gordon can win Catie's heart, I swear I'd be willing to crawl on the ground and eat dirt!"

"Ahem!"

Both Alaina and Justice choked on their drinks. Alaina quickly said, "Mom, it's not that serious! Even if they do get together, you don't have to eat dirt…"
