THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 880

"I just picked it up," Caitlin said with a shrug, not thinking anything of it.

Celeste swallowed hard. "You're sure you just… picked it up?"

Caitlin nodded, walked over, and effortlessly lifted the suitcase again with one hand. "It's not that heavy."

Celeste's eyes widened.

Not that heavy?

Clearly, she and her best friend lived in different universes.

"Wow, just wow!" Celeste said, beaming with pride. "My best friend is officially a superhero."

After helping Celeste check her luggage, Caitlin walked her to the security gate before heading back to her car.

However, instead of driving straight home, she took a detour to the apartment building where Gordon was currently living.

It was one of the most exclusive residences in the Capital, home to many celebrities, which meant the security was top-notch. Caitlin had easy access because the Gonzales family also owned property there.

She parked and stepped out of the car. As she approached the building's entrance, a middle-aged woman in sunglasses walked up to her.

"Excuse me, miss, could I have a moment?"

"Are you talking to me?" Caitlin asked, glancing over.

"Yes," the woman said, pulling a business card from her purse. "I'm an agent with Veracity Media. You have a wonderful look and presence. I'd like to sign you to our agency."

"Thank you for the offer," Caitlin said politely, "but I have no plans to enter the entertainment industry."

The woman seemed taken aback by the rejection. "You must not recognize me," she said, a little flustered.

Caitlin nodded slightly.

The woman removed her sunglasses. "You should recognize me now."

Caitlin stared blankly. Not only had she not recognized her before, but she still didn't.

The woman smiled, assuming the lack of recognition was feigned. "That's right. I'm Claire Kent."

Claire Kent. One of the most powerful agents in the industry. Every artist she signed became a star. Countless aspiring actors begged for a chance to work with her.

Claire glanced at her watch. "I'm short on time today. Let's do this tomorrow. Three o'clock at The Gilded Cup. We can sign the contract then."

She seemed confident that revealing her identity was enough to seal the deal. With that, she turned to leave.

"Ms. Kent, please wait," Caitlin called after her.

"I'm really busy today. We can discuss salary and benefits tomorrow. Don't worry, Veracity Media offers the best resources and compensation in the business."

"Ms. Kent, you misunderstand," Caitlin said clearly. "I genuinely have no interest in an entertainment career, so I won't be able to make our appointment tomorrow."

"Mr. Sylvester!"

Caitlin let go of the pets and ran to him, leaping into his arms like a koala. He caught her easily, holding her steady as he peppered her face with kisses. "I thought you said you'd be a little later," he murmured.

He had known she was coming to pick up Monday and had cleared his schedule to cook for her. He had planned to go get her once dinner was ready but was pleasantly surprised she'd arrived early.

"There was no traffic, so I got here sooner than expected," Caitlin said, raising an eyebrow playfully. "Why? Are you hiding someone in here?"

Gordon chuckled, his voice a low rumble. "Yes, I am."

"Hiding who—"

The rest of her words were swallowed by his kiss. This time, it wasn't on her cheek, but squarely on her lips.

It was a long, lingering kiss. Their position shifted from him holding her to him pressing her down onto the soft sofa. Caitlin's hand was tracing the lines of his abs when a sharp, acrid smell hit her nostrils.

The tracing motion turned into a pinch.

"The food is burning," she said with a grin.

Gordon's eyes snapped open, suddenly clear. "Oh no! My sea bass with vermicelli!"

Caitlin loved fish and she loved noodles. Gordon had spent his free time while she was away learning the dish from a master chef. He adored the look of pure happiness on her face when she ate something delicious, especially when he was the one who had made it. The sense of accomplishment was immense.

As Gordon rushed to the kitchen, Caitlin couldn't help but laugh. A moment later, she followed him. "Mr. Sylvester, can the sea bass be saved?"
