Keira never expected Maura to be so shameless, to take an inch and demand a mile. Her wonderful granddaughter was being talked about as if she were worthless, needing to buy a husband!
She was furious! Keira was truly seeing red. Since Maura had thrown away her own dignity, Keira saw no need to give her any face.
At this moment, Keira was trembling with rage. Maura, on the other hand, was stunned. She never thought Keira would react this way! Her son was so outstanding; agreeing to marry a divorced, second-hand woman like Caitlin was a huge favor to the Gonzales family. And this was the thanks she got? Keira pointing at her and telling her to get out. How ungrateful!
Maura turned to Keira, her face contorted with anger. "Keira, I only agreed to let my Jeremiah marry your granddaughter because of the history between our families. Otherwise, with a talent like Jeremiah, what kind of woman couldn't he marry? Why would he have to settle for someone who's divorced?"
"I suggest you think this over carefully. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Do you really expect your second-hand granddaughter to marry some business tycoon? Stop dreaming!"
"The fact that she can marry my Jeremiah is a blessing your ancestors must have worked for. Who else do you think would have her?"
The more Maura spoke, the angrier she became. The decision to marry Caitlin was already a great injustice to her precious son. But not only was Keira ungrateful, she was acting like this. And now she wanted to sever ties with the Somerset family! Had Keira taken a good look at her own granddaughter's character? Disgusting.
An old hag, a toad lusting after a swan? The butler paused. Was Keira referring to Old Mrs. Somerset? If he remembered correctly, the Gonzales and Somerset families had always been on excellent terms. Why would Keira suddenly say such a thing? The butler had been outside and didn't know what had transpired, so he hesitated to act.
Maura snorted. "Keira, let me tell you, some things can't be undone! If you kick me out of here today, the bond between our families is truly broken. In the future, even if you regret it and come begging for Jeremiah to marry your granddaughter, we won't have her!"
A toad lusting after a swan? It seemed this old witch Gonzales didn't understand who the toad and who the swan really were in this situation. How ridiculous! Did she not know what her own granddaughter was really worth? She should be grateful anyone was interested.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
