Jeremiah was completely stunned. He stood there, his legs feeling weak and a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He could barely stand.
A missing girl case... Tax evasion. Why? Why?
He had been so careful to cover his tracks in both matters. How were they discovered? And after all this time!
Jeremiah never thought this day would come so quickly.

At that moment, a pair of cold handcuffs snapped onto Jeremiah's wrists.
The lead officer spoke again. "You're coming with us."
Old Mrs. Somerset immediately stood in front of Jeremiah, her face frantic. "Officers, you've made a mistake! My son has always been a law-abiding citizen. He's a good man! How could he possibly be connected to a missing person case? You can't just take him away without cause!"
About two years ago, there had been news reports about the disappearance of an 18-year-old girl. When she was finally found, her body had been buried in a desolate field. The police had been investigating the murder ever since, but a lack of evidence and missing surveillance footage from the burial site had stalled the case, turning it cold.
Old Mrs. Somerset remembered the news so clearly because the 18-year-old victim had worked for the Somerset family for six months. But she never imagined that one day, her son would become a suspect in that very case.
"Rest assured, ma'am. We police officers operate based on evidence. We will not wrongly accuse an innocent person, nor will we let a guilty one go free," the lead officer said, glancing at Old Mrs. Somerset. "We don't arrest people without reason. Since we're taking Jeremiah Somerset into custody, it means we have evidence."
That last sentence was heavy with implication. They had evidence? Did that mean Jeremiah was really involved in the case?
That last phrase terrified Old Mrs. Somerset. Her face went white, and she quickly stepped aside, clearing the way for the police.
And just like that, Jeremiah was led to the police car.
Old Mrs. Somerset chased after them.
Jeremiah pressed his face against the metal bars of the car window, shouting, "Mom, I'm innocent! I really am! You have to save me!"
Old Mrs. Somerset cried, "I will! Jeremiah, don't worry, Mom will hire the best lawyers for you! I will save you! I promise!"
Though the police left, the agents from the revenue service were still at the Somerset estate.

So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
