THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 925

Old Mrs. Somerset had never imagined there would be cameras on the mountain. She had thought that without any footage, she could drag the Gonzales family into the mud with her. Even if she was wrong, she could stir up enough trouble to make sure her grandson hadn't died for nothing.

But now… there were cameras.

"I don't believe you! The footage is fake! It has to be! The Gonzales family killed my grandson!" Old Mrs. Somerset began to thrash and wail, throwing herself into a full-blown tantrum.

But this was a police interrogation room. Hysterics were useless here. Two female officers quickly restrained her.

Meanwhile, the surveillance footage of Dragon falling into the water played on the large screen in the room.

"Maura, look closely! The victim fell in by himself. If we're talking about responsibility, you, the guardians, are the most responsible parties here. How could you let a minor run off and play alone like that?"

The officer continued, his voice sharp. "Furthermore, we have witness statements confirming that if you hadn't pulled the valve plug out of that swimming ring, the child wouldn't have died. You are the one who truly killed him!"

This was the very definition of reaping what you sow. Old Mrs. Somerset had become a living embodiment of the phrase.

Hearing the officer's words, her psychological defenses crumbled. She broke down completely. "No, it wasn't on purpose! I didn't know it was my Dragon in the water!" If she had known it was him, she never would have destroyed the swimming ring. No one knew how much she regretted it now. She felt an urge to strangle herself.

The officer scoffed. "What do you mean, you didn't know? Does that mean you can be indifferent to the life of someone else's child? The bystanders weren't asking you to jump in and save him! They just wanted to borrow a swimming ring, and you wouldn't even do that!"

Old Mrs. Somerset just kept crying. "It's all Caitlin's fault! It's all her fault! Caitlin knew it was my Dragon, but she wasn't clear! Officer, even if Caitlin didn't directly push my grandson into the water, she's no different from a murderer! If she had just told me it was my Dragon in the lake, why would I have ever pulled the plug from the ring?"

"She's a murderer! Caitlin is a murderer! Officer, you have to get justice for me!" The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. The Gonzales family knew Dragon. They probably knew from the very beginning it was him in the lake.

"You're talking nonsense! I've already made the matter of your grandson perfectly clear," the officer said sternly. "Now, let's talk about your attempted murder charge."

Attempted murder?

Old Mrs. Somerset immediately shot back, "No, it wasn't attempted murder! I was getting justice for my grandson! Caitlin deserves to die! That little bitch deserves to die! Why does the Gonzales family get to be whole and happy while my family is shattered? It's not fair! It's not fair!"

Keira glanced at Flossie, her expression cold. The Somersets had gone too far. Today, Old Mrs. Somerset had nearly harmed Caitlin. Although Flossie wasn't directly involved, she was still a Somerset. Keira couldn't bring herself to be pleasant.

Flossie had been crying for a long time since Dragon's death, and her eyes were still red and swollen. "Keira, I'm not here to ask for your forgiveness. I just wanted to say I'm sorry. For all the trouble my mother has caused you and your family in the past… Whatever punishment she receives now, she deserves every bit of it."

Flossie didn't address Keira with the familiar title she used to, but with a respectful distance. She bowed deeply to Keira, then turned and walked away.

Watching her leave, Keira's eyes held a flash of surprise. She hadn't expected that from Flossie. She had been bracing herself for Flossie to bring up the old debt of gratitude between their families. But instead, she had said nothing but a simple, heartfelt apology.

Keira's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "That girl, Flossie… she's the only sensible one in that family."

"Mom. Freya."

Stuart and Carey walked over from another direction. Carey immediately took Caitlin's hand. "Freya, are you okay?"
