Even now, Mayo was still arrogant.
After all, this wasn't the first time he had broken the law. He had gotten out before, and he would get out this time too.
Therefore, Mayo didn't take the matter seriously.
Lawyer Fitzgerald shook his head. "Mayo, this situation is not as simple as you think. Do you know who Fortune Kensington is connected to?"
"Connections?" Mayo burst out laughing. "What connections could a lonely old man possibly have?"
With a grave expression, Lawyer Fitzgerald continued, "Did you know that his adopted granddaughter is Miss Gonzales? And that Miss Gonzales's boyfriend is Master Ninth?"
"What?"
The color instantly drained from Mayo's face.
How could this be?
He thought he was picking on a helpless old man, but it turned out his backing was rock solid.
Forget little Silverhaven; in the entire country of Eldermere, no one dared to provoke someone with the backing of both the Gonzales and Sylvester families.
And it didn't stop there. Behind the Gonzales family stood the fiercely protective Richards family.
Offending Fortune was the same as offending three of the nation's titans.
It was terrifying.
Though it was a sweltering summer day, Mayo felt as if he had been plunged into an icy abyss. "Fitzgerald… Lawyer Fitzgerald, you're joking with me, right?"
It had to be a joke.
A joke.
Why would that lonely old man, Fortune Kensington, have such powerful connections?
Mayo struggled to compose himself.
Lawyer Fitzgerald shook his head. "I'm not joking. I've just met with the Gonzales family's lawyer. Mayo, this is no longer about whether you can get out. The question now is whether The Lowell Group can even survive."

When Fortune opened his eyes again, he was lying in a hospital bed, the scent of antiseptic filling his nostrils.
Caitlin and Gordon were sitting by his side.
Seeing him awake, Caitlin let out a sigh of relief. "Grandpa, how are you feeling now?"
"Much better."
Gordon immediately placed a pillow behind Fortune's back for support.
Fortune looked at Caitlin, then turned to Gordon. "Catie, it's a good thing you and Vest got here so quickly. Otherwise, I can't imagine what would have happened."
Fortune smiled and nodded. "Alright, alright. This time, I'll go back to The Capital with you all."
In truth, the incident had made Fortune realize the seriousness of the situation. Rather than causing his children to worry constantly, it was better to live with them. If Caitlin hadn't noticed he was missing so quickly, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
"Really?" Caitlin was pleasantly surprised by his answer.
"Of course, it's real." Fortune nodded. "Grandpa will keep his word this time."
Caitlin held out her pinky finger. "Grandpa, let's pinky promise."
"Okay," Fortune said, hooking his pinky with hers. "Pinky promise, cross my heart, for a hundred years."
Seeing that Fortune had finally agreed to come back, Stuart and Carey breathed a sigh of relief.
Gordon tactfully brought over two glasses of water. "Mr. And Mrs. Gonzales, please have some water."
Stuart, who was thirsty, took the glass from Gordon and took a sip.
Carey smiled. "Thank you, Vest."
"Don't mention it, Mrs. Gonzales."
Carey continued, "Vest, Catie told me everything. We owe you a huge thanks this time. If you hadn't found Fortune so quickly, I don't know how this would have turned out."
If anything had happened to Fortune, they would have been consumed by guilt.

Can you please publish another novel - sorry for your loss, its me am the loss...
So happy for Carey, the reunion with her family is touching. Can we read more of Caitlin and Gordon? Readers are forgetting that Caitlin has a boyfriend by the way. Is it normal for their relationship to be erased in the storyline?...
Update please......
But where is Gordon?...
Great story, great author!...
