"Fuck!" Thurston growled, "You brought this all on yourself! If you hadn't lied about the marriage and used her... Lucy was crazy about you. Of course she would have wanted to have your baby."
He knew too well that Lucy's submissiveness in the beginning might have been an act, but her later affection for Kingsley couldn't be faked.
"Just for some ancient history, you destroyed your own home. Lost your wife and child. Was it worth it?"
Thurston stared at him.
"Kingsley, you're going to regret this sooner or later. Chances are, you'll walk the same path my father-in-law did when he was young."
Kingsley shot him a cold look. "Hmph. Does your father-in-law know you talk about him behind his back?"
He raised his bruised hand, holding the cigarette, and took a deep inhale. "I don't need you to teach me how to handle my affairs. Worry about yourself, whipped husband."
Kingsley glanced at the mess in the office and said deeply, "Clean this up. Or don't think about leaving."
"Dream on." Thurston blew a smoke ring, the haze curling around his fingers. "I'm covered in injuries. You owe me for medical bills."
"Get out—"
Kingsley stood up and sat on the sofa, impatience in his tone, though he added slowly, "You should be thanking me. Go back with those injuries and play the victim with your wife. You know the drill. Maybe you'll get to sleep at home tonight."
"Save your rotten ideas."
Thurston scoffed. If he went back looking like this, Jane would only look down on him more. "Do you think I'm stupid?"
Kingsley walked back behind his desk. "You can leave now. I'm not inviting you for dinner."
"Who wants to hang out here anyway."
Thurston pushed himself up using the armrest, picked up his suit jacket from the floor, and shook it out.
"Got a mask?"
Shane looked at Kingsley's retreating back and quickly responded, "Yes, sir."
Kingsley walked to the elevator and waited side-by-side with Thurston. neither looked at the other, the air filled with a stiff silence.
The elevator dinged. Kingsley stepped in first, followed closely by Thurston.
"Now that you're divorced, planning to rekindle things with your childhood sweetheart?" Thurston broke the silence first, his tone mocking.
Kingsley swept a cold glance at him. "Aren't you overstepping?"
Thurston let out a scornful laugh. "Who cares about you? I'd love nothing more than to cut ties with you. I just really wanted to insult you a bit!"
Kingsley's eyes darkened with warning. "Say one more word of nonsense, and I won't mind letting you taste what divorce feels like too."
"Fuck off!" Thurston glared at him. "Even if you get married two or three more times, Jane and I will never divorce!"
