Lucy took the elevator straight to the top floor. The secretary waiting there immediately stepped forward, leading them toward the conference room.
"Please wait a moment. Mr. Sterling will be here after his call," the secretary said before gently closing the door.
As soon as they sat down, Emma couldn't suppress the doubt in her heart. She leaned in and whispered, "Lucy, who was that person downstairs just now?"
That man's features were simply a miniature version of Seven! She had always thought Seven's father was long gone, but he was actually alive.
But if he was alive, why did he never look for Lucy and Seven? A string of questions swirled in her mind.
Lucy rested her fingertips on the edge of the conference table and simply spat out, "Ex-husband."
Her tone was calm, as if talking about something unrelated to her, without a hint of emotion.
Emma paused, then nodded in understanding, tactfully not asking further.
A few minutes later, the conference room door was pushed open gently.
The secretary walked in with two steaming cups of coffee, placed them carefully in front of Lucy and Emma, and quietly retreated.
Immediately after, Sean strode in. When his gaze landed on Lucy, he smiled instantly. "Lucy! It’s been a while. Very happy to see you!"
"Mr. Sterling, the honor is mine." Lucy stood up and shook his hand lightly, her tone proper yet distant.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Lucy opened the laptop in front of her.
As the design blueprints lit up on the projection screen, she began to explain the details of the plan methodically. Sean listened intently, occasionally offering suggestions for modifications to the design details. Their communication was incredibly smooth.
More than an hour passed unconsciously in this efficient exchange. The sky outside the window was approaching noon.
"It's lunchtime. My treat, shall we grab a simple meal together?" Sean closed the file and issued an invitation.
Shane nodded immediately. "No need, I understand."
Just then, Kingsley's phone vibrated. A message popped up: [Kingsley, it's my birthday tomorrow night. You'll come, right?]
He glanced at it, didn't reply, and turned to instruct Shane, "Prepare a birthday gift for Joyce."
"Yes."
Shane had just responded when he heard Kingsley add, "Your year-end bonus is cut in half."
Shane instantly felt the pain—was it just because he had slipped up and called out "Mrs. Sherwood" earlier?
He quickly changed the subject, trying to salvage the situation. "Mr. Sherwood, there's one more thing. Miss Lynwood is now the interior designer for the Sterling Group's Dragon Bay project."
As soon as the words fell, Kingsley's sharp gaze shot toward him, his tone turning even colder.
