Grandma Chelsea and Mr. Lynch finally made it, bursting through the doors just in time.
Lilly started crying, relief flooding her. No one else could possibly understand what they'd just survived. If they’d been even a second later, Ella would have lost her baby. That thought alone made Lilly’s knees give out, her body going weak.
“Grandma! Dad!” she called.
Grandma Chelsea didn’t hesitate. She rushed straight into the operating room and hurried to Ella’s side, grabbing her hand with trembling fingers. “Ella, it’s me. Grandma’s here, I’m here.”
Ella looked so pale, almost see-through, like she’d lost every drop of blood in her body. She’d been holding on by pure willpower, but seeing Grandma Chelsea made her finally relax. Her lashes fluttered as she whispered, “Grandma…”
Grandma Chelsea squeezed Ella’s cold hand tight. “It’s okay now. You don’t have to be afraid anymore. As long as I’m here, nobody’s going to lay a finger on you or the baby.”
Ella gave the smallest nod, eyelids fluttering shut as sleep finally claimed her.
Mr. Lynch stepped closer and checked Ella’s pulse. After a tense pause, he let out a breath. “She’s alright. Doctor E and the baby are both safe.”
Grandma Chelsea’s gaze hardened as she turned to the kidnappers and the doctors who’d been forced to the ground. Her voice was sharp and cold. “Take them all away and question them, one by one. I want to know who’s behind this. If they refuse to talk… I guess they don’t have to own their tongue anymore.”
Everyone in the room could feel the weight of her words. Grandma Chelsea had run the Harmon family for years. She’d retired a while back and usually treated people with kindness, but when she got serious, it was like the entire room shrank under her presence. The kidnappers and doctors shivered, too scared to meet her eyes.
“Grandma Chelsea, we… we were just hired for money…” one of them tried to say.
But they didn’t get to finish. Guards dragged them out of the room. There’d be plenty of time for questions later.
Ella was transferred to a VIP suite in the hospital. She was so worn out that she fell into a deep, peaceful sleep the second her head hit the pillow.
