Aiden turned around and spotted David. “Sir, do you need anything else?”
David still felt restless, unable to shake off the sense that something was wrong. The uneasiness pressed heavy on his chest, as if something bad had already happened and he was only just realizing it. He pursed his lips. “You go check on Ella…”
He never finished. Jessa suddenly let out a sharp cry.
David jumped up from his seat. “Jessa, are you okay?”
“David, my heart… it hurts.”
She went limp, falling straight into his arms.
Aiden stepped closer. “Sir…”
Jessa kept her eyes on Aiden, watching him carefully. As soon as he seemed ready to say something, she quickly reached up and wrapped her arm around David’s neck. “David, my heart really hurts. Please, take me to the hospital.”
She pressed her hand over her heart. “It hurts so bad. I can barely breathe.”
David’s face changed. Without hesitation, he lifted her up in his arms. “Jessa, I’m taking you to the hospital. Right now.”
He carried her out of the room.
…
Lilly rushed to Fiona’s apartment, out of breath. She raised her hand to knock, but the door opened all by itself.
She hurried inside, still panting. “Ella! Fiona! Ella? Fiona, where are you?”
The place was eerily quiet. The floor was a mess, things scattered everywhere, but there was no sign of either Ella or Fiona.
A wave of anxiety crashed over Lilly. Ella should have arrived before her, but now both she and Fiona were gone.
She pushed open the bedroom door and froze.
Fiona was lying on the floor, completely still.
