The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 21

The office before her was immense, a grand and tastefully luxurious space. And the man seated behind the expansive desk, with his sharp, chiseled features and an intimidatingly cold aura, was none other than the “ice guy” she had run into at the hospital several times recently.

He was also the “smoking guy” from the terrace, the one who had witnessed her at her most vulnerable, just as she had witnessed him.

Vivica was stunned. The world suddenly felt incredibly small. It turned out she’d already crossed paths with the renowned lawyer on multiple occasions.

Fannie, noticing her frozen state, assumed she was intimidated by her boss’s powerful presence. She offered a gentle, smiling reminder, “Ms. Lynn, you can go in. Mr. Baird is available now.”

Vivica snapped back to reality, feeling a wave of embarrassment. “Thank you.”

Joseph rarely paid attention to women he didn’t know, often forgetting their faces entirely.

But this woman, he remembered vaguely. She was the one on the terrace, sobbing her heart out, looking like she was about to jump.

He understood immediately, his mind defaulting to a stereotype—another dependent woman, the kind who couldn’t survive without a man.

“Fannie, you can go,” Joseph said dismissively, having already formed a judgment about the case.

He was only taking this meeting as a favor to Prof. Christie; he just had to get through it.

Fannie exited, closing the door behind her.

Vivica, having composed herself, moved forward.

“Mr. Baird, hello. My name is Vivica Lynn. We’ve met at the hospital. I was a bit of a mess then, I apologize if I made a scene.”

Joseph’s brow furrowed, his eyes still fixed on his computer screen, a look of annoyance on his face. After she finished, he asked curtly, “What’s your relationship with Prof. Christie?”

“My best friend is his niece.” Vivica answered, understanding the implication of his question, and quickly added, “I know your time is valuable and you have specific criteria for the cases you take. I’m very grateful to Prof. Christie for making this happen.”

Joseph’s expression only darkened, and it was unclear if he had even heard her.
