The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 27

Joseph had just arrived at the hospital to find his parents’ room empty. Assuming his mother was getting a check-up, he was about to go find Dr. Tyson when he saw them returning, deep in conversation.

Hearing the stern tone in his son’s voice, Sheridan immediately passed the blame. “Ask your mother. She insisted on getting out of bed. She’s so stubborn, I can’t do anything with her.”

Joseph’s brow furrowed, his stern face filled with even more suspicion as he turned to his mother in the wheelchair.

Melanie knew her eldest son’s temper. She also knew that telling the truth would earn her a lecture about being delusional. After a moment of hesitation, she lied. “I was feeling cooped up in the room. The sun looked nice, so I wanted to get some fresh air.”

“The sun?” Joseph turned and glanced out the hospital window. “Am I blind, or are you confused? It’s raining outside.”

“Joseph, is that any way to speak to your mother?” Sheridan interjected, his face instantly serious as he defended his wife.

Joseph’s lips thinned as his gaze shifted between his parents. He knew they were lying. And he knew they had been up to something behind his back.

“The hospital is covered in security cameras. If you won’t tell me, I’ll just go check the footage,” he threatened, making a move to leave.

“That’s enough!” Sheridan said irritably, pushing his wife’s wheelchair into the room. “We just went for a walk. And… we happened to see someone else’s child, to soothe our own broken hearts. It’s your fault for being old and unmarried, not giving us a grandchild.”

Sheridan was an expert at changing the subject, instantly shifting the blame onto Joseph.

Joseph was stunned. “Someone else’s child? Whose child?”
