Vivica nodded. “Exactly.”
“Hahaha, Vivica, you’re brilliant! I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they realize they’ve been had!”
After her initial excitement, Quintina frowned. “But Fletcher is no fool. Do you really think he’ll agree to an amicable divorce?”
Vivica considered it for a moment. “He’ll definitely suspect I’m up to something. But the thing is, given his current situation, a messy, contested divorce would be far worse for him.”
Quintina listened intently.
Vivica continued, “My lawyer told me that even if I can’t get him to leave with nothing, I’m entitled to a share of his company’s equity. That would be very bad for his company’s future, especially if he’s planning to go public.”
So, after weighing the options, Fletcher would probably take the gamble—betting that she would take the million and disappear quietly.
But she had other plans. She was going to make them squirm, make them hate her with a burning passion while being completely powerless.
Quintina beamed. “I see! You’re smarter than I thought. For a second there, I was worried your parents had pushed you over the edge and you were just giving in.”
“Never. I’d rather go down in flames and take them with me than let them have an easy win.”
“That’s the spirit.”
Seeing that her friend had a handle on the situation, Quintina felt relieved and headed back to her own department.
After she left, the smile faded from Vivica’s face, and a wave of melancholy washed over her. It wasn’t because of Fletcher’s betrayal or Riley’s taunts. It was because of her parents.
The thought that they were willing to disregard Chaim’s very life just to squeeze money out of her left her feeling frozen to the core.
