Joseph had been eager to see Vivica's son for himself, but the boy hadn't been there on his last visit. He was planning to go again soon, determined to see the child before making any judgments.

But until he knew the boy's identity for sure, he didn't want to get too involved with Vivica, even though her situation was undeniably tragic. He knew that heartbreaking stories unfolded every minute of every day. He was a lawyer, not a savior, and he couldn't rescue every unfortunate soul in the world.

"I'm too busy. I don't have time," Joseph said, deciding to send his butler, Simon, with an apology instead. "I'll have someone prepare a few gifts tomorrow, and Simon can drop them off."

Inwardly, however, he was already plotting how he would find a chance to see the boy the next day.

Sheridan complained, "All you ever do is work, work, work. What's the point of making so much money? You don't have a wife or kids. Who are you going to spend it on?"

Joseph remained silent. He knew that after his brother’s death, his parents would double down on their efforts to see him married.

He wanted to be a good son, but marriage wasn't something he could rush into. He found it hard to imagine walking down that aisle, into the so-called tomb of matrimony, without a woman who truly captivated his heart.

The next day, Vivica went to work as usual. But during her lunch break, she rushed back to the hospital to be with her son.

When she pushed open the door, she was stunned to see the room filled with all sorts of high-end gift baskets. "What... who sent all this?"

Ruby, who had been busy, turned and hurried over. "They're from that older couple. They said they were sorry for being so forward yesterday and asked you not to mind. They said these are nutritional gifts for the child, just a small token from them."

"Why didn't you tell me? We can't accept something this valuable."

"I tried to refuse, I really did, but they insisted on leaving them. They said it was all for the child, and if we didn't take it, they'd have no use for it and would just have to throw it away..." Ruby explained, looking troubled.
