"Riley!" Fletcher panicked. He grabbed her arm and, making up his mind, said, "Alright, I'll give you the million. I'll divorce her."
Riley stopped crying and shot him a sidelong glance. "When?"
"When... do you want to?"
"As soon as possible, of course! Let's do it tomorrow."
Fletcher didn't object, which was as good as an agreement.
...
When Vivica received Riley's call, she knew the money was secured.
"The registry office, ten o'clock this morning. Be there," Riley commanded, her tone imperious.
But Vivica was at her desk, in the middle of her work. "Can't make it," she replied flatly.
After all, Riley was the one in a hurry, desperate to become the new Mrs. Sanford.
"Didn't you say yesterday that you were available anytime, as long as the money was there?" Riley demanded, her impatience showing.
"I can't get away right now."
"Then when are you free? You better not be backing out of this."
Vivica glanced at her packed schedule for the day. "How about tomorrow morning at eight-thirty?"
That way, she would only be an hour late for work and could make up the time in the evening.
"We have to wait until tomorrow?" Riley's voice was sharp, worried that any delay might lead to complications. "Vivica, you're not playing games with us, are you?"
Vivica chuckled softly. "I'm the one begging you for help right now. I'm hardly in a position to play games."
She deliberately humbled herself, letting Riley's ego swell.
"Hmph, as long as you know your place! Eight-thirty tomorrow morning, then. If you're not there, I'll come find you at the hospital."
