The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 78

The message had barely been sent when her phone rang. It was Joseph.

“Hello, Mr. Baird?” Vivica instinctively straightened up, her voice a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

Joseph could sense her on-edge tone and explained, “I prefer to discuss things over the phone. You don’t need to be so tense.”

A lawyer’s time was precious, especially his. He was juggling numerous high-stakes cases, making every minute valuable. That was why he rarely texted, preferring to call directly. The two messages he’d sent that morning to “comfort” her were an exception, born from a sense of guilt and the awkwardness of calling while Roderic was present.

“Oh, okay. I understand,” Vivica replied with a smile, relaxing a bit.

“I have something to finish up here. I should be at the hospital around one. Can you wait?” Joseph asked.

Vivica, remembering she had to be back at work by two-thirty, responded, “Yes, that’s fine. Please, take your time.”

“See you soon.”

After hanging up, Vivica bought lunch and went upstairs. To her surprise, when she entered the room, the small table was already laden with a delicious-looking meal.

“Ruby, did you buy this?” Vivica asked, confused.

Ruby shook her head. “Didn’t you order this? A man dropped it off and left right away.”

Vivica frowned. Their eyes met, and they both had the same thought.

Could Joseph have arranged for lunch again?

Chaim was already digging in. When he saw his mother, he called out cheerfully, “Uncle ordered it! When he left this morning, he asked me what I wanted for lunch…”

So it really was him.

Vivica walked over and stroked her son’s head. “Well, why didn’t you say so sooner, sweetie? Mommy went and bought three more meals.”
