The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 79

Seeing his mother’s reaction, Chaim asked innocently, “Mommy, don’t you like Uncle?”

“Of course not!” Vivica answered instinctively, but then quickly backtracked. “I mean… it’s not that I dislike him, it’s just… Mommy and Uncle can’t like each other in that way. He’s your uncle, and he can’t be your daddy.”

Ruby, listening quietly nearby, grew even more confused about Mr. Baird’s true identity. As a nanny, it wasn’t her place to pry, but seeing the resemblance between him and Chaim, she was already scripting a grand drama of infidelity and secret love children in her head.

Chaim, however, was only getting more muddled by his mother's explanation. In the end, only one thing stuck: Mommy didn’t like Uncle, so Uncle couldn’t be his daddy.

...

After lunch, Vivica still felt uneasy. She took her son’s hand and looked at him seriously. “Sweetheart, listen to Mommy. Don’t talk to your uncle about this topic anymore, okay? Just focus on being good friends with him.”

“Okay,” Chaim nodded obediently.

“Also, in a little while, Uncle is going to take us to see a grandpa and grandma. You’ve met them before. They were the ones who saved you when your other grandpa and grandma tried to take you away.”

Vivica thought it best to prepare her son for the visit.

“Why are we going to see them?” Chaim asked.

Vivica struggled for an answer. “Because you’re so handsome and smart, Chaim, and they like you very much. They just want to play with you.”

“Sigh… being handsome is such a burden,” the little boy lamented with adorable gravity.

Vivica couldn’t help but laugh, ruffling his bald little head. “Sweetheart, being liked by so many people is a blessing you can’t even imagine. You’ll understand when you’re older.”

In that respect, her son was much luckier than she was. She had grown up in a loveless home, her soul like barren soil where no bright flowers could bloom, devoid of warmth and happiness.

But her son was different. He had all of her love, and though he was losing a father, a replacement had already appeared—one whose affection far surpassed the original. Her baby would not suffer the same miserable fate she had.

Ruby, listening in, continued to flesh out her mental drama. “So, with the divorce coming, they’re not hiding it anymore. They’re going to see the boy’s real father and meet the real grandparents.” The thought made her silently judge Vivica.

Vivica’s phone rang. She picked it up and saw the caller ID, her brow furrowing slightly. It was another one of Fletcher’s numbers. What did he want now?

Assuming it was about the divorce, Vivica hesitated for a moment before stepping away from her son and answering in a low voice, “Hello?”

“Vivica, since when did you hire bodyguards? Now I can’t even come see my own son without being blocked?” Fletcher demanded angrily.

“You’re at the hospital?” she asked, surprised.

She walked out of the room and down the hall toward the elevators, where she saw Fletcher being held back by two guards. To be honest, she had walked this hallway countless times and had never noticed them before. Joseph’s people were truly professional—invisible until they were needed.

“Vivica, is this how you’re squandering that million dollars? On bodyguards? Do you know how much that costs a day?” Fletcher challenged as she approached.

Vivica ignored him and spoke politely to the guards. “You can let him go.”
