Even if Brianna eventually found out, she and Jotham had a child together. For Milo’s sake, surely she wouldn’t let the Holt family fall into complete ruin. Ramona may be the Covington heiress, and the Jordon Group may be powerful, but not even they could easily take down a deeply entrenched corporation like Gallop Inc. As long as Brianna held on to this lifeline, the Holt family could survive.
Revenge was a dish best served cold.
For now, the divorce had to be stopped. Winnie and Brianna’s relationship was strained, so the task of repairing the couple’s marriage fell to Eulalia and Flynn.
Eulalia had the housekeeper prepare a lavish meal. It was the first time she had ever invited Brianna to her home, and not knowing her preferences, she had ordered a banquet fit for a holiday celebration.
Times had changed. All Eulalia wanted now was to get on Brianna’s good side. She greeted her warmly, offered to take her coat, and tried to make small talk.
Brianna, however, was inwardly disgusted. When it came to being two-faced, the Holts were in a class of their own. For Jotham’s sake, she didn’t make a scene, but she rebuffed all of Eulalia’s attempts at friendliness.
When Eulalia tried to serve her some food, she pointedly moved her plate away. “I prefer lighter fare. I can serve myself.”
Eulalia’s smile froze on her face. Flynn kicked her under the table.
“Eulalia, next time, don’t go to so much trouble,” Brianna said, picking at a piece of fish before setting it aside. “There are only four of us; we can’t possibly eat all this. And besides… given the Holt family’s current financial situation, I think we should be more frugal, don’t you?”
Her condescending tone made Eulalia want to scream, but she forced a smile. “You’re right.”
“I’m finished,” Jotham said abruptly, dropping his utensils and heading to the restroom.
Seeing him leave, Brianna wiped her mouth and followed him.
The moment she was gone, Eulalia rolled her eyes. “What a piece of work. She’s nothing compared to Ramona.”
It was true what they said: you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. The more she saw of Brianna, the more she realized how good she’d had it with Ramona.
Flynn was also annoyed. The meal had cost him a considerable amount of money and effort, and Brianna had barely touched anything.
Jotham locked himself in the restroom. He only emerged after Brianna had been knocking for several minutes.
“Are you not feeling well? We should go home and rest,” she said softly, trying to embrace him. He instinctively pulled away, but she persisted, wrapping her arms around his waist.
