Chapter 323
I slipped inside as quietly as possible, staying hidden behind a shelf near the entrance. Margaret was saying something to the librarian, who was frowning at her over her glasses.
Curious, I crept closer, making sure to stay out of sight.
“You want access to the restricted section?” the library was asking. “What for?”
Margaret’s mouth pressed into a thin line. “It’s hardly for you to know, isn’t it? I am your Luna, and I have own matters to attend to.”

The librarian’s face paled slightly with indignation. But after a moment of hesitation, she sighed and pulled a large key out of her desk, then led Margaret away toward the restricted section–the area of the library that was off–limits to those without express permission. It contained all kinds of rare books and documents.
Interesting. I wondered what Margaret could possibly need from there. Whatever it was, she certainly wasn’t doing any light reading.
Unfortunately, I could only follow them to the door. The librarian unlocked it and swung it open, flicking on the lights to reveal a room filled with shelves and filing cabinets beyond. Margaret held her head high and strutted inside, and the door slammed shut behind her.
The librarian turned around before I could slip away and gasped when she saw me standing there.
“You’re dripping water all over the carpet!” she hissed, shooing me away. “Shoo, shoo!”
“Sorry,” I muttered, shooting the door one last curious look before hurrying out of the library. I rushed to the car and climbed inside, shivering already from how soaked I was.
Well, that was… odd. I wondered what Margaret was doing in the restricted section, but knowing her, it was probably just research for her next blood diamond ring or some kind of forbidden cosmetic surgery.
By the time I made it back to the estate, my soaked clothes had turned cold from the heavy rain, which was coming down now in sheets, and even the car’s heaters couldn’t dry me. I hurried inside, getting wet again—I really should have brought an umbrella–and headed straight to the kitchen for tea to warm my insides.
The kitchen was empty and dim, lit only by the warm glow from the fireplace. I kicked off my wet shoes and put on a kettle to boil, then stood by the wood stove and absorbed the heat while I waited.
As I stood there, my mind kept spinning with thoughts about the curse. According to Julia, I needed three artifacts to break the curse. A ritual blade, a scrying mirror, a grimoire. They could be anywhere, assuming they even still existed after all these centuries.
If they ever existed at all, which was beginning to feel even more unlikely than it already did.
I wrapped my arms around myself and furrowed my brow. Everything felt like it was spiraling out of control. Liam was dying, I was no closer to truly finding a cure, and the one lead I had felt like it had already led to a dead
end.
My eyes pricked with tears at the very thought. Poor Liam, so full of hope… I wanted nothing more than to fulfill his request, to find the artifacts and break the curse before it was too late, but I didn’t even know where to start.

Lilith didn’t know anything. The archives didn’t have anything useful. And it wasn’t as if I could check my father’s burnt house for information.
I shivered, although it had nothing to do with the cold this time.
Suddenly, just as the kettle began to whistle, I felt something soft and warm settle around my shoulders. I
gasped, surprised by the sudden weight of a blanket around me, and looked up to see Alexander standing over
