The Sickened Luna's Last Chance novel Chapter 330

Chapter 330

Stella?Anya’s concerned voice cut through my haze. Are you alright? You look pale.

1 blinked and met her gaze in the mirror, suddenly realizing what I was about to do. She didn’t know, but I’d been this close to shredding her wedding gown.

I quickly retracted my claws and took a step back, clearing my throat. I’m fine,I bit out.

Stella furrowed her brow. Your claws were extendedare you sure-

I said, I’m fine!

The words ripped out of me like a dagger from within. Anya winced at my raised voice, and the designer and wedding planner stared at me in shock. I immediately regretted it.

II didn’t mean

Give us a moment, please,” Anya said, gesturing to the designer and planner. They both nodded and hurried out of the room, shooting me wary looks.

Once we were alone, Anya turned to me. Stella, you’re not acting like yourself today. You’ve been grimacing all day and

Her words began to fade in my ears as I stared at her in that dress. Outside, the moon’s glow had begun to appear in the skyit was still light out, but I could see that pale disc now through the window, as if it were staring at me. Mocking me.

He’s ours,my wolf was howling with even more fervor now. Shred her. Rip her—

You know you can always talk to me, Stella.Anya was reaching for me. We’re friends-

Stop!I shouted, smacking her hand away. Anya’s eyes widened, and I think she said something, perhaps my name, but I couldn’t hear her over the sound of my wolf howling.

Say it,my wolf commanded. Tell her the truth! Before it’s too late! You must, Ella-

I love him!I cried out.

Anya froze.

Alexander’s POV

I’d been walking past the parlor on my way to my office when I heard Stella’s voice through the partially open door.

I love him!

My feet stopped moving, my heart stuttering in my chest as my wolf suddenly lifted his head and let out a howl that echoed through my entire being.

She was talking about me.

i pressed my back against the corridor wall, my hands shaking as the full implications hit me. That was why she couldn’t reject me last night. This was why she’d looked so tormented.

Stella loved me.

The mate bond flared to life with such intensity that I had to grip the wall to keep from staggering. Every instinct I had was screaming at me to burst through that door, to pull her into my arms and never let her go.

But I was getting married in three weeks. And I could never love another woman now that Ella was gone.

And yetWhy did I feel so relieved to hear Stella say the words?

II meant Liam,I heard Stella say suddenly. I was talking about Liam. I’m just upset about his illness, that’s all.

Liam. Of course.

She wasn’t talking about me at all.

My wolf’s howling cut off abruptly, replaced by a silence so complete it felt deafening. The mate bond that had been blazing moments before went cold and lifeless.

I wasn’t entirely sure why, but for some reason, I had to get out. So I pushed myself away from the wall and walked quickly down the corridor. I didn’t stop until I was in my car, and I immediately peeled out of the driveway.

The roads blurred past as I drove, my hands gripping the steering wheel hard enough to make my knuckles turn white. I shouldn’t have cared. Stella wasn’t Ella, the woman who I truly loved. She was just the secondchance mate that I never wanted, nor asked for.

And yet the thought of her not loving me after all made my heart break for reasons I couldn’t even begin to comprehend.

By the time I reached the outskirts of town, the sun was setting and the full moon was visible in the sky. The sight of it made my wolf even more insatiable.

That was when I saw the sign for one of the local clubs. Bright neon letters advertised Full Moon Special! Half Price Drinks All Night.

A drink. That was what I neededjust one drink to soothe my frayed nerves.

I pulled into the parking lot and headed inside without hesitation.
