The Sickened Luna's Last Chance novel Chapter 346

Lilith’s Perspective

“Why are you doing this again? You remember how it ended last time. It only brought you more pain,” her inner wolf warned sharply.

The memory stung like a fresh wound. The last time Lilith had slipped quietly into Richard’s home after waking up in this new body, her heart had shattered beyond repair. She had stumbled upon Richard in bed with another woman—Margaret—just months after her own death.

But deep down, Lilith knew she should have seen it coming. The moment she spotted Margaret and Richard together at that banquet, a cold suspicion should have taken root. She should have realized long before her death that Richard was being unfaithful.

Back then, Lilith had been foolishly hopeful. She had clung to the belief that their newborn daughter, Ella, would be the glue to hold their fractured family together. That the innocence and love of their little girl could erase the bitterness, the hatred, and the widening distance between them.

But life rarely plays out so simply.

Lilith had died when Ella was barely a few weeks old. By the time she was reborn and fully aware of her surroundings, Richard had already moved on with his life.

This time, however, Lilith wasn’t sneaking in to check on her husband or her child. A nagging feeling gnawed at her—Margaret was somehow entwined with the curse that plagued her. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but the sensation was as undeniable as the steady thump of her heartbeat beneath her palm or the fierce presence of her wolf within her soul.

Margaret had always felt… off.

Lilith’s mind drifted back to the days when Margaret used to visit the Stormhollow estate, always under the pretense of friendliness. But beneath that polite facade, Margaret’s eyes had been scanning the place, assessing its worth. Lilith hadn’t realized then that Richard—her husband—was perhaps just another valuable asset to Margaret.

Despite its grandeur, the house’s security was surprisingly lax. Margaret’s maid, Maisy, let Lilith slip in through the back door without hesitation.

“Be quick,” Maisy whispered urgently, guiding Lilith into the dimly lit kitchen. “Margaret’s room is on the second floor, third door on the left. But you’ll have to pass by Richard and Brian—they’re in the parlor.”

Lilith nodded silently, pressing a small wad of cash into Maisy’s hand as thanks, then hurried toward the parlor. Voices floated down the dark hallway, tense and unmistakable.

“I can’t take over a pack that’s drowning in poverty,” Brian’s voice was heavy with frustration. “You and Mama need to fix this before I come of age. It’s bad enough that that miserable Alpha cut off our monthly payments. And now Ella’s dead? What are we supposed to do?”
