**TITLE: The Perfect 385**
Ella’s POV
Anya’s dress hugged her in some places while sagging in others, a curious blend of fit that, for the most part, suited her. I glanced at my reflection, the short red wig concealing my dark burgundy locks, and I couldn’t help but feel a flicker of satisfaction. It was a convincing enough disguise to get us through the night. I reminded myself that I wouldn’t need to wear it for long—at least, that was my fervent hope.
Anya turned to me, her fingers deftly adjusting the gray fabric of her Omega uniform in front of the mirror. The fabric shimmered slightly, a testament to its quality.
“I’m sorry I slapped you so hard,” she murmured, her eyes darting to the faint red imprint still visible on my cheek. “I guess I got a little overzealous, didn’t I?”
I couldn’t help but smirk, the corner of my mouth twitching upward. “It’s alright. You played your part brilliantly. Besides, I probably deserved it after all the chaos I’ve dragged you into over these past few months.”
Her eyes widened in mock horror. “Never!” she exclaimed, her voice a mix of disbelief and affection as she slipped the dark auburn wig over her head. It looked slightly absurd on her, but I knew from past experiences that no one would pay her any mind. As long as she kept her head down and her demeanor calm, she would pass unnoticed. “You don’t deserve that at all. You’re my best friend in the whole world!”
“Oh, my sweet girl.” I couldn’t resist the urge to pull Anya into a warm embrace, feeling the comfort of her presence wrap around me like a soft blanket. “You’re far too kind to me. Too kind to everyone. If only I could give you the world.”
“You’ve already given me so much.” She pulled back just enough to meet my gaze, her eyes searching mine. “Just no real answers.”
A pang of guilt shot through me at her words. Anya had been nothing short of perfect, readily agreeing to assist with our plan the moment we approached her. She had immersed herself in the role, executing it flawlessly. Yet, we had withheld the truth from her—the real reason behind our actions, the stakes involved, and the potential fallout.
