The Sickened Luna's Last Chance novel Chapter 390

**The Perfect 390**
**Chapter 390**

“Gabriel?” I gasped, the name slipping from my lips like a whispered secret. “So it was you he was working for all along?”

“Absolutely! With those artifacts, I had the power to resurrect anyone I desired. I decided to test it on Gabriel first; he was surprisingly eager.” Margaret’s voice dripped with a casual nonchalance, as if we were discussing the weather rather than the grim subjects of murder and resurrection. “But it was such a chaotic scene… so much blood. Did you know that when people die, they often lose control of their bodies? It’s quite messy—urine and feces everywhere.”

“Get to the point,” I snapped, irritation boiling beneath my skin.

“Alright, alright.” A sly grin crept across Margaret’s face, her eyes glinting with a mixture of malice and excitement. “I eventually figured out that the artifacts, when applied to the individual they’re tethered to, allow me to bypass the need for actual death. I can simply shatter their soul. Take Julie, for instance.”

With a deliberate swagger, Margaret strolled over to Julie, a predatory gleam in her gaze. She flicked the blade of the knife across Julie’s cheek with a swift motion. I gasped, my heart racing, but Julie stood utterly still, a statue of indifference as crimson droplets began to weave their way down her skin.

“I fractured her soul in two,” Margaret declared with a chilling satisfaction, wiping the bloodied knife against Julie’s shirt as if it were a mere inconvenience. “No death. No excessive bloodshed. All I needed to do was drain the energy from her artifacts, and she became mine. It saved me the trouble of killing her and then bringing her back.”

“So, you plan to do the same to me?” I asked, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me.

“Actually, I had reserved these artifacts for your mother. Gabriel was supposed to abduct her a few days ago.” Margaret’s gaze locked onto mine, her expression shifting to one of twisted glee. “But then he mentioned spotting a woman who bore an uncanny resemblance to you at the estate, and it struck me—you had inherited the curse, just like your mother. And after you so brazenly pulled the rug out from under your father and me by convincing Alexander to halt the funds, I realized I had to have you instead.”
