The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 162

Chapter 162

Alex smiles as he watches his brother.

It was a smile that came from deep within, a quiet, overwhelmed kind of smile that said more than words ever could. He tdidn’t say anything. He didn’t need to.

Just looking at Jullian standing there, whole and healthy, was enough to make his heart feel like it might burst.

He still couldn’t believe it.

Jullian was better.

He wasn’t just sober. He was better. There was light in his eyes. His skin looked clearer, his shoulders straighter, like the weight he’d been dragging around for years had finally been lifted.

The difference was clear. It wasn’t the kind of change you could fake. Not the kind you could cover up with a smile and a few polite words. No. This was real. Jullian was alive again.

And Alex was proud. So proud.

His throat tightened just looking at him.

For a long time, Alex had feared he would never see his brother like this again.

There were days when he prepared himself for the worst. Nights when he got phone calls and his heart dropped to his stomach before he even answered. There were relapses, hospital visits, lies that made his chest ache, and apologies that sounded like goodbyes.

But somehow… Jullian had pulled himself back.

Not for anyone else. Not even for Alex.

But for himself.

And that made all the difference.

Jullian wanted to be better, and wanting it had made the fight a little easier. Not easy. Never easy. But easier. Because once he decided he was done letting the pain win, once he decided he was worth saving, he did the work.

Alex never stopped hoping, but he would be lying if he said he hadn’t almost given up.

Their family had a long history of burying things, pain, mistakes, people. They didn’t talk about things. They covered them with money and silence. They pretended things were fine when they were falling apart.

And when Jullian started to fall, their father refused to help.

“This is what Dad couldn’t allow,” Alex said quietly, more to himself than anyone else. “Said his first son going to rehab would taint the Blackwell name.”

The memory stung. Even now, it brought a sour taste to his mouth.

Their father had said it with such cold finality, like the family name was more important than Jullian’s life. Like Jullian was just an image, a headline, a risk. He didn’t see the pain. He didn’t care about the tears. All he saw was reputation.

Alex had never forgiven him for that.

They always did.

Jullian didn’t reply. Maybe he didn’t need to.

He was here. That was enough.

They stood in silence for a few moments, just taking in the moment.

And in the middle of it all stood Jullian. Clean and different

He looked like himself again.

Maybe even better than before.

Jullian turned around slowly, his eyes wide in awe as he looked at the space around him. “Are you sure I can work here?” he asked, his voice, softer now.

There was hesitation behind the smile. A small crack in his confidence, like he was scared he would wake up and realize it was all a dream.

Alex didn’t miss it.

“Of course,” Alex said without even blinking.

It was the easiest answer in the world. He didn’t hesitate. Didn’t pause to think. Jullian wasn’t just welcome here, he belonged

here.

This wasn’t some pity offer. This was home.

Jullian gave a breathy laugh and shook his head. “I still can’t believe it… Can’t believe you did this in less than a year. You’re something else.”

Alex smiled at the compliment. But more than that, he smiled because Jullian sounded proud. And hearing that meant the world to him.

“Well, I’m glad I impressed you-” Alex started to say, raising an eyebrow with a small grin tugging at his lips.

But Jullian didn’t let him finish.

“Impressed is an understatement,” Jullian said quickly, cutting him off with a warm chuckle. His eyes were glassy now, not in a sad way. It was like he was overwhelmed in the best way.

He stepped forward, then gently hit his brother on the shoulder, smiling wide. “Thank you for the opportunity, little brother.”

Alex didn’t say anything right away. His throat was tight again.

All he could do was smile.

“Any information from father?” Jullian asked, and just like that, the brightness in his eyes dimmed.

His smile disappeared.

Alex nodded slowly. “I have no idea how he got my number, but he called,” he said with a sigh.
