THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 38

IRIS.

“Alpha, your breakfast is ready. Your car and the car that will come with us are already waiting outside.” Roman said as they walked side by side, while I walked ahead of them, making my way to the dining room.

“You’re staying home. I’ll take Liam instead.” I heard Alpha Draco told him.

“But I’m the one who goes with you whenever you attend the summit.”

I didn’t hear the rest of their conversation because I had already entered the dining room and gone directly to where Mirelle was.

I knew the Alpha wanted his coffee only to be prepared once he was already seated, so I told her I would be the one doing it for him this morning. She smiled widely at me before handing me his empty cup, and I proceeded to make his coffee just the way he wanted it.

He and Beta Roman were still discussing when I gave him his coffee and proceeded to my spot at the other end of the table. But before I could sit, the Alpha called me.

“Iris…” He said as he tapped the space on the table to his right. “From now on, you’ll sit here.”

I was sure the Beta was sitting there the last time we all ate together, and I didn’t notice he was sitting to his left today. I didn’t say anything and just moved to where he wanted me. He then proceeded to speak with the Beta again as we ate.

After a while, Alpha Draco told me to eat faster, as we were already running late. I nodded right away and told him I was almost done. I was terrified he might say something about what I did to him that caused us to delay our breakfast.

He didn’t say more, but the smirk he gave me told me he remembered and that he could say something about it if he wanted to. So I ate as fast as I could, and in no time, I was already sitting in the backseat of his car, waiting for him as he left instructions for his Beta.

After they were done talking, instead of sitting beside me or in the passenger’s seat, he opened the driver’s door and asked Liam, who was seated there, to get out of the car. “I’ll drive. You can ride with the others.”

The Delta didn’t question him. He just got out and went to the other vehicle.

Alpha Draco then opened my door and asked me to move to the seat beside him. I did as I was told. We were already driving when I noticed his shoulders were relaxed, so I finally threw the question I’d been wanting to ask.

“Do you like driving, Alpha?” I began as I looked in his direction.

“No,” he replied without looking at me, concentrating on the road.

My forehead creased. “Why did you volunteer to drive?”

“Because of you.”

“Me? What did I do wrong?”

His expression didn’t change, but I saw the slight movement in the corner of his lips. It twitched to a small smirk for a quick second before he replied. “I have to hold something, or you might end up on my lap with the kind of dress you’re wearing.”
