THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 39

IRIS.

I smiled at him and was about to ask him if he was still dating Tricia, but his phone rang.

He spoke with whoever was on the phone in a language I was not familiar with. I was guessing it was in Italian, and I was left in awe of how beautifully he carried the accent, even if I couldn’t understand a thing.

They spoke for a long time, and by the time they finished talking, we had arrived in what looked like a resort with a hotel at the front.

I saw the blue water along the highway, thinking we were just passing, but I didn’t expect that this was where the actual venue was. It excited me. I couldn’t remember the last time I was at a beach or near any water except for small rivers and streams within the forest.

Alpha Draco might have seen my face because he asked me as he turned off the engine. “Do you like the place?”

I couldn’t help grinning as I nodded. “I saw there’s water behind the hotel…”

“This hotel has access to the beach for its guests.”

“Wow.”

“But we’re only staying for a couple of hours.” He added.

“I know.” I kept smiling. I would have loved to swim, but I knew this place was not for someone like me.

I roamed my eyes on the front of the hotel, and my smile was immediately wiped away when I saw Tricia.

Her face lit up when she recognized the car we were in, and the moment Alpha Draco stepped out, she jumped from her spot and walked toward him.

I wished the Alpha would open my door, but he didn’t. Instead, he opened the backseat and grabbed his coat. He left it open as he put on his coat, so I heard their conversation when she approached him.

“Good morning, Alpha. I’ve been waiting for you so we can enter the building together.” She began, and I could hear the excitement in her voice. “The organizer couldn’t believe I was able to convince you to be the guest speaker.”

She was smiling seductively at him, but if anything, she wasn’t touching any part of him. I guess she knew as well that he didn’t want to be touched.

“Are we late?” The Alpha ignored everything she said and asked that instead.

“No. We are not.” She replied.

I rolled my eyes because I was sure the “we” that the Alpha asked was for him and me, not including her. I knew I was being petty, but then I didn’t like her at all.

Also, I knew we were already ten minutes late from what I saw on the car’s dashboard. Aside from coming down late for breakfast, the Alpha slowed down from driving while we were on the highway, where we could see the beautiful view of the blue and green alongside. I wanted to assume he was letting me enjoy the scenery.
