IRIS.
“And then a few days after he returned, he suddenly had a girlfriend.”
I stopped walking as my forehead creased. I knew of Felicity, but the Princess of Absalom? What was that?
Princess Adessa. The missing royalty. I had heard of her and the Royal Games, but I had no idea that Draco was part of it. So many questions in my head, but I did my best not to show any emotion as I turned around to face her.
“Are you up on being just a rebound?” Her voice was laced with malice.
“Is that even a question? You seem to mock me for being a rebound girlfriend, while you are clearly comfortable with just being a fling or a bed warmer.” I crossed my arms across my chest. Acting like Constantine’s mistresses seemed to be getting easier in front of her. “At least I have the girlfriend title in my name.”
“Draco is obviously losing his mind…”
“Probably.” I shrugged my shoulders. “Too bad he isn’t losing his mind over you.”
Her eyes squinted as her face warped into a scowl. She took aggressive steps forward. I hastily stepped back, raising my hand and pointing a finger at her.
“If I were you, I’d think about that. Draco doesn’t joke around when it comes to my safety. The last person who tried to harm me ended up in a hospital. I’m sure you don’t want that to be your fate.” That was not the whole truth. The last one had his head cut off, but I would rather not say that.
“Draco will never hurt me.” She snapped at me, but she stopped approaching.
“Go ahead and try it then. So we’ll see for ourselves which side he’ll take.”
“Arrogant bitch.”
“I’m not arrogant. I just know where I stand. You should, too. And maybe once you do, you’ll start minding your own business.” I slipped past her and headed for the door. I had forgotten I needed to pee, or I didn’t feel the need anymore.
“Draco is mine!” Her voice was full of anger.
I turned around to face her again. “Keep saying that to yourself, but please, get out of my way.”
I swiftly turned my back on her and grabbed the door handle, opening it and walking out with fast strides. My head tilted up to look at our table, and I found the Alpha already looking in my direction. His forehead was creased as he stood up and walked toward me with big strides. We met halfway, and his hand coiled on my elbow and guided me to the corner.
“Are you okay? What happened?” He stood in front of me, his eyes roaming around my body.
Since he was towering over my frame, no one could see, so I finally let go of the breath I was holding while walking away from Tricia. “Tricia was in the restroom.” I swallowed. “She said some things to me, and how I’m just a rebound girlfriend.”
Our gazes returned to the restroom as its door opened and Tricia stepped out, walking back to where her table was.
“I’ll talk to her.” He said, and he was about to go when I grabbed his forearm.
When our eyes met, I shook my head. “I would rather that you don’t leave me to take another woman somewhere to talk with her privately.”
