She brushed past him with long, quick strides, desperate to put some distance between them. If she had to talk to this infuriating man for even one more second, she was sure she would explode.
Out of nowhere, his voice called after her. “Evelynn, do you know someone named Felicia?”
The words hit her like a punch. Her heart squeezed tight, panic prickling along her spine. She forced herself to stay calm, took a slow breath, then turned just enough to look at him. Her gaze was flat, her voice icy. “Do you need me to repeat myself? There’s nothing for us to talk about.”
She didn’t give him a chance to reply. She kept moving, her footsteps quick and determined. Only when she was farther away did she slow, pressing a hand to her chest to steady her breathing. Was he starting to figure things out? Max’s question meant he’d been digging into her background. Jeremy had tweaked her files back then. She had thought it was just a precaution. After all, joining Roen Capital shouldn’t have brought her anywhere near Max. He was still hopelessly devoted to Andrea. She’d never heard any gossip about him with other girls.
Now, she couldn’t believe how often they’d run into each other since she got back. And for some reason, he seemed intent on making her life difficult. Maybe she and Max were just destined not to get along. Even with a new identity, nothing had really changed.
She gave herself a moment to cool off, then walked toward the main house’s living room.
At lunch, only Nate, Hope, Max, Felicia, and the two kids sat around the table. Anne insisted on sitting right next to Felicia.
Hope glanced at the two of them and smiled. “Anne really likes you, Evelynn.”
Felicia just returned the smile, playing along. Hope didn’t know who she really was.
Anne piped up, “It’s because Evelynn is so nice.”
With the two elders and the kids’ laughter filling the room, the whole atmosphere was warm and easy.
After lunch, Felicia stood to say goodbye to Nate and Hope. Anne looked reluctant but knew Felicia had work to do and didn’t try to keep her there. Felicia hugged Anne goodbye, never once glancing in Max’s direction or acknowledging him at all. She just turned and left.
Nate watched them go, frowning a little. The tension between those two was impossible to miss.

Update pls...
The story is a drag. How can they write crap like this where the female lead is like a lapdog, and the male lead is a complete trash? They use a child to blackmail the mother into staying. The female lead should not go back to the trashy male lead. I would prefer her to be with Jeremy....
Hey. Thank you for updating this novel here. Request you to update a big bulky lot of chapters please. It is such an interesting novel that 10 per day is simply not enough. Thanks again...
