So, she started the fire and tossed a good helping of butter into the pot before pouring the soup she’d packed away into the pot.

Then, she added two fresh tomatoes to the hearty tomato–based broth, allowing it to simmer gently. The delicious scent quickly caught everyone’s attention.

“That smells amazing!”

Everyone began to crane their necks to look at what Theresa and the others were having.

Lara and Lachlan couldn’t help but feel a sense of deja vu. After all, they used to look at Theresa with the same hungry and hopeful eyes before they joined the alliance!

Thankfully, the heavens shone upon them, and they were blessed with good food. They could have all the food for themselves!

Quentin had just whipped out a pile of ingredients and pasta, and was about to dig in when Ava trotted over with her bowl. “Whoa, now that’s food!”

Her eyes were glued to the steaming pot of stew merrily bubbling away.

There was a sheen of oil on the surface of the tomato–based stew.

“I told you we have no shortage of food out there,” Lara said with a shrug.

At this point, Ava was seriously tempted to take the leap of faith. So, she crouched down and whispered, “Take me with you. I want to join the alliance!”

“Alright, you’re in,” Theresa replied.

“Awesome!” Ava was over the moon. Then, her eyes swung back to the pot of stew as she tentatively broached the subject, asking, “Can I have some?”

“Knock yourself out.”

Ava didn’t go for the meat. Instead, she scooped a big ladle of the oily broth and poured it over her rice.

Then, she gobbled up all her broth–soaked rice without even lifting a finger to grab a piece of

meat.

Oh, my God. I’m in heaven! It’s so good! Ava squealed inwardly.

The rich, greasy flavor coating her mouth and tongue genuinely made her feel as though she’d gotten a slice of heaven.

Before the apocalypse, she was like any other girl, meaning she tended to avoid fatty or oily foods. She could still remember that she used to prefer light and healthy meals.

Yet, her preference could go to hell for all she cared. She had suffered for four years in the apocalypse. Right now, she’d scarf down a chunk of lard and rejoice.

Besides, her body needed this, okay?

As her lips moved away from the morsel, they saw juicy tomato flesh and seeds on full display.

“Join what?”

“Join their alliance! Follow that lady and you’ll get to eat like royalty. It’s seriously so good!”

They were practically frothing at the mouth to join them now.

Theresa welcomed those who were interested in the alliance with open arms. As a result, there was not a single empty seat around their fire.
