“I may only be the captain of an ability–user squad, but everyone in Solan Camp knows the truth. When I speak, no one dares to argue. Whatever I want, my sister gives me. My brother- in–law obeys her, which makes me the one in charge.”
Theresa said nothing. Her face was cold, her eyes steady.
He leaned closer, his grin dripping with pride. “I’ll make it simple. I want you. Don’t leave. Stay here with me. Be my wife. I promise I’ll treat you better than my sister ever dreamed of being treated.”
Theresa stared at him, her silence sharper than any blade.
The smug fire in his eyes reminded her of a man she once knew.
A man who had carried the same blind confidence.
But at least that man had true talent.
This fool had nothing but speed.
One ability. Nothing more. No power. No skill. No vision.
He survived by clinging to his sister and her husband, and now he dared to promise her a life “better” than his sister’s.
His sister and brother–in–law were nothing but weak–willed fools for letting him leech off them.
Theresa drew in a deep breath. She looked him dead in the eye. “You think you can give me a life better than your sister’s?”
“Of course,” he said with a sneer. “Every woman in Solan Camp envies her life. You should be grateful. Your blessing has come.”
Her patience snapped. Her hand swung hard, the sound cracking through the air. The force knocked him off his feet and hurled him sideways. His body hit the ground with a heavy thud. Her voice sliced the silence. “You are blind. Anyone can see I already live better than she does. Why would I sink to her level just to be with you? Your brain runs straight from your stomach. Your eyes are nothing but vents. Your head is filled with trash, so you can’t even see the truth.”
Orren pushed himself up, clutching his reddened cheek. Rage twisted his face. “How dare you hit me!”
Theresa stepped forward, her gaze burning into him. “What will you do about it? Go complain to your sister. You’re pathetic. Any woman who marries you will curse her fate. She’ll feed you.

She’ll clothe you. She’ll spend her husband’s sweat to keep you alive. And you’ll still want more. You don’t even see what you’re worth. With what you have, you couldn’t afford the laces on my boots. You’re nothing but a parasite. A worm that drains others dry.”
Orren trembled with fury, pressing harder on his swollen cheek. His eyes locked on her, blazing. “You vain woman! Just wait. I’ll make you regret this.”
He turned and stormed away, his boots pounding against the dirt.
Theresa let out a slow breath.
She had seen arrogance before, but his delusion shattered all records.
The moment he disappeared, footsteps approached.
A chorus of voices called out to her.
“Theresa!”
“Theresa!”
She lifted her head.
She knew those voices. Louisa, Dominic, Flora, and Miles came into sight.
Faces she had not seen since their parting.
“So it’s you,” Theresa said, her lips curving into a rare smile.
Louisa’s eyes glistened with relief. “Theresa, are you alright?”
“I’m doing fine.”
Lucian frowned. “I just saw you slap Orren?”
“He deserved it,” Theresa replied without hesitation.
Charlotte’s voice wavered. “Theresa, my cousin has always been arrogant. You might have stirred up trouble.”
Theresa’s eyes narrowed. “He’s your cousin?”
“Yes,” Flora answered quickly. “Orren is my cousin. Arwen is too. My parents came here with both of them.”
Theresa nodded slowly. “I see. Don’t worry.”

Louisa bit her lip. “But Orren never forgets a grudge. His sister spoils him without end. After what you did, he’ll hate you for sure.”
Theresa’s voice was steady. “Let him try. If he wants to provoke me, he should first check if he has the strength to stand against me.”
Her thoughts sharpened. Solan Camp depended on her base for survival.
Solan might cherish his wife and coddle her brother, but he wasn’t a fool.
