The Undead and Unstoppable Apocalyptic Queen novel Chapter 689

**Kept Woman 689**
**Chapter 689 Too Little, Too Late**

“Yes, Madam Kane,” Clara’s subordinate replied, his tone filled with reluctance, as if the very words were a bitter pill to swallow.

A triumphant grin spread across Clara’s face at the sound of her new title. It felt like a crown resting on her head, a symbol of her hard-fought victory.

Finally, she had ascended to the esteemed position of second-in-command at the East Sea Camp.

And fortune smiled upon her, for that insufferable Lily had made the wise decision to leave.

Everything was falling perfectly into place.

Clara felt so elated that she could almost float away on a cloud of happiness.

She had expected some grand exit from Lily, perhaps a dramatic scene to mark her departure, but instead, the woman had simply walked out, leaving Clara the golden opportunity to claim the role she had long coveted.

Her satisfaction was palpable, a warm glow radiating from within.

Yet, there was one dark cloud casting a shadow over her joy: Harrance. Ever since Lily’s exit, he had retreated into his room, isolating himself as if he were a creature of myth, hiding from the world.

He hadn’t emerged all day, and the thought gnawed at Clara’s mind.

“By the way, we have a mountain of backlogged paperwork that needs your immediate attention, Madam Kane,” the subordinate informed her, placing a hefty stack of documents on her desk. Clara grimaced at the sight; Lily had been responsible for this chaos before her departure.

Her mood soured further. “Take these to Harrance! I can’t deal with any of this nonsense!”

“The… former second-in-command was in charge of all these matters,” he replied, his voice tinged with hesitation.

With a reluctant sigh, Clara picked up the papers, flipping through them only to find herself utterly bewildered by the intricate scribbles and jargon. How was she supposed to navigate this mess?

“Madam Kane, everyone is waiting for your guidance. We need to resolve this quickly, or our entire schedule will be thrown into disarray!”

Annoyed by their incessant nagging, Clara snapped, “Just take these to Harrance! From now on, he’s responsible for everything!”

“But the camp leader said he isn’t to be disturbed. None of us dares to approach him.”

“Useless lot!” Clara cursed under her breath, pushing herself off the bed with a huff. She ordered her subordinates to gather the files and stormed out, determined to confront Harrance herself.

In mere moments, she found herself at his door, her heart racing with a mix of irritation and concern.

“Harrance!” she called out, her voice echoing down the empty hallway.

“Harrance!” she yelled again, pounding on the door with growing frustration.

After what felt like an eternity of silence, Clara’s patience finally snapped. “Harrance, open this door right now! I’m coming in whether you like it or not!”

Just as her hand grasped the doorknob, the door creaked open, revealing Harrance standing before her, looking as pale and lifeless as a ghost. His eyes were hollow, devoid of the spark that once defined him.

He resembled an empty shell, as if Lily’s departure had stolen his very essence.
